Love the handmade ice cream here! They serve two popular flavours: peanut and hallabong (Jeju orange) ice creams. I tried the hallabong ice cream which was very refreshing especially after our hike to Udo Peak. The owner was also very friendly and he even asked me about Singapore. ππ¦
Tried the half vanilla half chocolate ice cream at Lotte Sky Tower. The picture only shows the chocolate flavour. ππ¦π«
There are many street food at Myeongdong - the rose ice cream at Milky Bee is a must-try π¦πΉ
The tour guide helped us order Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) so that we could enjoy some chimaek at the hotel. She also recommended Terra beer to go with the KFC. This was not part of the itinerary but definitely a great add-on.
Chimaek is a play on the words βchickenβ and βmaek-juβ which means beer in Korean. We tried Korean fried chicken with some CASS beer. ππΊ
We had dinner at Myth Jokbal, a popular pig trotter restaurant at Hongdae. We ordered a plate of jokbal, along with some side dish like the fish roe rice.
We had dinner at a Pojangmacha and tried popular Korean street food like Pajeon (Korean pancakes) and Tteokbokki (Korean spicy rice cakes). We also ordered some rice wine to go with our food. The ajuma was very friendly and gave us a bowl of mussels on the house.
We definitely had to try Jajangmyeon when we visited Chinatown at Incheon. Thereβs even a Jajangmyeon museum nearby.
Jajangmyeon is a famous Korean noodle dish topped with a thick sauce called chunjang (black bean paste). This restaurant served the noodles and the ingredients: sauce, meat etc. separately.
The name of this restaurant translates to Jin Ok-hwa Original Chicken Restaurant and it is located near Dongdeamun station. It serves Korean chicken soup- The whole chicken was immersed in a pot of hot soup and the waitress would later cut and serve the chicken to us. This is unlike the herbal chicken soup I usually have and the broth has a much lighter flavour.
During my second trip to South Korea, I tried samgyetang at this one Michelin restaurant. Itβs also hard to miss this restaurant as there is a large chicken mascot at the entrance. π₯ The tour guide taught us the proper way to eat this dish: first, cut open the chicken and let the rice and ginseng seep into the soup and second, mix the chicken meat with some salt and pepper to add more flavour to it. Some seasoning is a must for me, because I still find the chicken rather bland!
Samgyetang, or ginseng chicken soup, is a must-try dish when you visit South Korea. Tosokchon is a very popular samgyetang restaurant near the Gyeongbok Palace- so expect a long queue. The soup had a very strong herbal taste. However, the rice and the ginseng wrapped in the chicken did not have much flavour to it. We were also served a complimentary ginseng wine each.
