The name of this restaurant translates to Jin Ok-hwa Original Chicken Restaurant and it is located near Dongdeamun station. It serves Korean chicken soup- The whole chicken was immersed in a pot of hot soup and the waitress would later cut and serve the chicken to us. This is unlike the herbal chicken soup I usually have and the broth has a much lighter flavour.
During my second trip to South Korea, I tried samgyetang at this one Michelin restaurant. It’s also hard to miss this restaurant as there is a large chicken mascot at the entrance. 🐥 The tour guide taught us the proper way to eat this dish: first, cut open the chicken and let the rice and ginseng seep into the soup and second, mix the chicken meat with some salt and pepper to add more flavour to it. Some seasoning is a must for me, because I still find the chicken rather bland!
Samgyetang, or ginseng chicken soup, is a must-try dish when you visit South Korea. Tosokchon is a very popular samgyetang restaurant near the Gyeongbok Palace- so expect a long queue. The soup had a very strong herbal taste. However, the rice and the ginseng wrapped in the chicken did not have much flavour to it. We were also served a complimentary ginseng wine each.
Bibimbap is a popular Korean dish, usually served as a bowl of white rice with vegetable toppings, some meat and an egg. There are various versions of Bibimbap and we tried the hot stone pot Bibimbap which came with a raw egg instead of a cooked egg- otherwise the sizzling hot pot would have instantly overcooked the egg!
Miss Lee Cafe is well-known for old school Korean snacks and we’re here for the dosirak. Remember to shake the dosirak to mix the ingredients before eating~
Egg Drop is very popular in South Korea and I could find an outlet in almost every city I’d been to. The outlet I visited was located near the Ewha Women University. I tried the ham and egg toast. It was pretty good for a quick breakfast.

We tried the beef sando, ebi sando and Wagyu chips. I like the sandos- both the beef and prawn were very nicely cooked. Good for sharing!

Had sambal prawns for starters, squid paella for main and a cheesy cheesecake for dessert. The starters dish is my favourite- love the succulent prawn meat! Just don’t ask me why this is on a Spanish restaurant menu. Perhaps an alternate take on the delicious gambas.
Tori King serves a large chicken drumstick along with your ramen. The soup is rich and the chicken meat is tender and tears off easily from the bone. The chicken itself lacks flavour but the soup broth helps to make up for it.
The “Mexico by Day, Lebanon by Night” pizza has pork belly, chicharrones (Spanish for fried pork bits), some pineapples for its toppings and a chipotle base that adds a mild spicy flavour. As the name suggests, the pizza tastes like a big taco with spicy pork fillings and it certainly did not disappoint!
