Bought a voucher for Muyoo’s brown sugar milk ($4.90) on Shopback! Unfortunately the Raffles City outlet closed at the end of July, and I ended up trudging to Siglap to redeem my voucher. Muyoo has the best brown sugar pearls - chewy and just the right level of sweetness! It remains my favourite amongst the many brands.
Took a gamble with the risotto di caprese ($16.90) - might be that we picked the wrong combination but I’d be sticking to their pastas the next time! The rice had sufficient bite, but the pesto sauce was more cream than basil. The buffalo mozzarella was also strangely chewy.
Really affordable fare! My group ordered 5 dishes and 4 bowls of rice ($14). The food is on the saltier side but very flavourful! Only gripe is that some of the dishes were cold.
The sambal grilled fish ($15.90++) is my go-to order! The fish is fresh and succulent, lightly seasoned and grilled crisp. Good enough to eat on its own! A pity that they didn’t have shoestring fries available for selection that day - those are my favourite. But the sambal sauce pairs well with the mashed potato and seasonal vegetables!
Best part of this mee hoon kueh ($4) was definitely its chewy, hand-pulled noodles!! Portion was really generous, with both lean & minced meat. The soup has a natural sweetness and none of the usual thirst-inducing msg!
The truffle portobello mushroom pizza ($25.60+) remains my favourite of the options available. The crust is thin but has a good bite, and the truffle aroma is sufficiently evident. Would have appreciated more toppings!
Was quite excited to see that TCA finally had a beef burger on their menu, after removing their previous rendition some time ago! However, this classic burger ($26.75+) falls painfully short of its predecessor. Was initially pleased to find that the brioche buns were still crisp when I sliced into it, but I realised that the beefy patty was dry. It looks, feels and tastes like a frozen patty; the paltry slice of mediocre cheese on top further irked me. Am quite disappointed to say that the standard of food at TCA continues to drop even as prices increase.
Snagged a 1 for 1 via the Suntec app! Opted for a mix of matcha and hojicha for the soft serve ($4.90) - I couldn’t tell the difference between the two after awhile, but the matcha was pleasantly bitter and the hojicha had a good roasted flavour. One of the better ones I’ve had!! It comes with either brown sugar or matcha sauce - I’d recommend the brown sugar for more dimension.
The flat white ($5.20) is a little on the thin side, but the flavour is extremely robust. It has a good caffeine kick of a dark roast profile!
The large passionfruit meringue tart is always sold out by mid day, so we settled for a slice of their lemon meringue cake ($8)! This was surprisingly delightful, with lemon curd layered in between vanilla sponge and topped with torched meringue. Would have liked the lemon curd to be a tad more tart, but I really enjoyed this!
Had to wait ~ 20 min to get a seat on a weekend afternoon! Thought we’d try something different by getting one of their savoury pastries. The ham & cheese croissant ($6.50) looks rather underwhelming, but it maintained a crisp exterior. The inside seems denser than their plain croissants, which is a pity as the buttery layers were not appreciable. The melted cheese ties the ham in nicely!
FFT’s family set can be ordered from their oddle page. It features a hefty portion of meats! The roast spring chicken was slightly dry but tasty and stuffed with herbs. The grilled salmon was flavourful and moist. The BBQ ribs were really tender and doused with sauce! This makes for a really hearty meal at home.
