Finally tried @isshinmachi_sg !
Got the following items:
-Porl Wonton Noodles with Feiry Chilli Oil ($9.10+$1): Topped up $1for their Guan Miao Noodles, and it was a superb choice! Super love the Guan Miao Noodles! Chewy and QQ! Love the spicy chilli sauce as well! Plump pork wantons! This was so good!
-Hakka Style Braised Meat Rice ($9): When the bowl was served, I was quite surprised by the small size of it. However, it was still quite a filling portion! Tender meat with braised egg. The fat to meat ratio is still too much for me though.
-Moon Shape Prawn Cake ($11): This caught my attention because of the name. Urm but why is it moon shaped? LOL I dont quite see any resemblance. Anw, this was like crispy popiah skin wrapping prawn fillings. Quite like it! But the chilli sauce was not very compatible imo
-Taiwanese Black Sugar Winter Melon ($3): Fancy drink, black sugar! But frankly, it tastes just like normal wintermelon drink

Mr Appam at Maxwell Food Centre!
Have heard so much about this stall prior to visiting! The stall is operated by a Vietnamese owner (who accidentally won a bid for an Indian stall and was unable to change the stall type afterwards).
We decided to get the basic Original Appam ($3 for two pieces) to try! Each serving comes with the orange palm sugar and grated coconut (which was not the sweet kind but slight sourish because it is fresh grated coconut). I loved the crispy edges of the Appam! But not very accustomed to the soft fluffy layer which tastes slightly sour as it is made from fermented rice flour. Guess I am still not an Appam convert lover.
But if anyone wants to try out Appam, this is the place to come to try!

Taro Bun from Garden Pastry & Cake 嘉頓!
Trying another taro item this time. Instead of the usual yam bun, this has a crispy swirl around the top (abit like the taro mooncake kind, but less crispy)
Orh Nee paste given for bread was also quite substantial.

Saw so many posts online raving about Penang Heng Heng Handmade Noodles so we were here to try it!
We arrived at 10am (opening hours as stated on google map) only to be told by the stall owner that they were still preparing and can only start serving at 1030am. Not sure if it was just a one off timing for our day of visit or everyday is the same 1030am then start selling (pet peeve for me is when the opening hours are different from what they state on google map😖). So we ended up waiting there for 33mins before our food was finally served 🥲
But thankfully it was a very good bowl of noodles!! We got the dry ban mian and dry meehoonkueh. At first when we saw the white colour noodles, we wondered if any black sauce was even added. But fret not, once you mix up the meat sauce w the noodles, it will turn brown! For spicy eaters, be sure to take the sambal chilli sauce at the counter! Super shiok when it is mixed in!
The noodles were also the best banmian i have ever eaten in SG! Chewy noodles are best! Banmian was more chewy than the meehoonkueh!
If you love their sambal chilli sauce, you can also buy home a tub at $5 each!
These premium lunch sets are available daily from 11am-2pm, and you can choose from a wide range of food items ranging from noodle, stew to rice sets!
Featured here are the following two lunch sets:
-Soybean Paste Stew Set ($20++): This soybean paste stew soup will warm your tummy! Super love the rich seafood taste for the soup! The soup is also slightly spicy, which i love! This stew comes with prawn, mussels and flower crab! For the seafood lover!
-Jajangmyeon Set ($23++): For jajangmyeon lovers, check out this! A substantial portion of noodles is given and it is super qq chewy! I also like how the meat here for the jajangmyeon sauce is not minced meat, but visible substantial thick pieces of pork meat!
All the set comes with the kimchi sides, mochi balls, drinks (barley / coffee / soft drink) and the soup for the day!
Check this place out for your next lunch!

Finally tried the @kinggrouperfishsoup at united square! This outlet has opened at united square for awhile now, but i was always put off by the price of the fish soup, and also because at first glance there is so many different fish choices available until i cant decide what to get.
At the recommendation from others, i decided to give it a go today! Was still at a loss of what to get, and decided to see what the person of me infront ordered. The customer ordered item 6, which was also what i was considering to get, so i followed suit! Since grouper is clearly better than batang and they are at the same price!
The soup was filled to the brim when the order was prepared! 😂 verdict? 10/10 will eat again despite the slightly higher pricing!✨
Firstly, the fish soup had tofu and tomatoes as well, even though i ordered the thick vermicelli noodle soup option. These two ingredients are typically only given when the soup only version is ordered. The fish soup is the non-milk kind and the addition of the tomatoes gave it a slight sourish tinge now and then which i quite like! They also add in cilantro here to elevate the soup taste further!
As for the fish slices, they were fresh and meaty! And 2 different kind of chilli sauces are given to complete your dining experience!
I also found some minced pork meat in my soup! Not sure if it is leftover from other’s orders or all fish soup come with minced meat too.
Already cant wait to eat this again. This is how good it is!
First time trying the egg crepe from DaXi!
Got the pork floss cheese egg crepe roll ($5.80)! Opened the takeaway box and I was slightly disappointed by how it looked. Was actually expecting something crispier (think along the lines of shilin crepes). Turns out their version seems to be the soft and floury kind. can’t help but feel slightly disappointed with the meal. Too doughy for me! I prefer crispier crepes like crispy prata that kind. The cheese was also not really melted. But the combination of porkfloss, egg and cheese is good!
But if you will like some affordable takeaway food in the novena area, this is still decent to get la.
