Love the basil sauce! It was not overly spicy or salty! Love the oozy egg yolk of the sunny side up egg too! So good that we could finish all the white rice with it!

Featuring the cakes I had for my November birthday feasting month!

Visited Whisking Bakes, Singapore’s 1st taro cafe!

I had tried their taro balls earlier, so I was very excited to try more of the other taro items they have!

Visited on a friday late evening time. Was afraid that they might be sold out of the cakes so I called in before heading down! Thankfully there was still ONE of the taro swiss rolls left on the shelve when i reach!

Featured here are the following items we tried:
đź’ś Taro-Misu ($6.50++): I initially did not want to get this item (was choosing between the orh nee cake or this, but went for this in the end since it was the popular item), but it ended up benign my favourite item! It was not as creamy as I feared it to be. The sweetness level was also just right and it was so pretty! The tiramisu lady fingers is layered with orh nee paste, mascarpone cream and creamy taro milk layers. HIGHLY RECOMMEND to get this if you have limited tummy capacity. For someone who dont super love tiramisu, this was super good to me!
đź’ś Taro Mochi Swiss Roll ($6+): This was the main item that I headed to the cafe for. But it kinda fall abit short of expectations when compared to the other taro-misu. The swiss roll layers while soft, it felt a tad too dry for me. Love the unique combination of mochi in the middle with yam paste all around. But somehow, the mochi didnt go well all in one together. But still a pretty unique swiss roll to try out!
đź’ś Taro Latte ($6.50+): You can choose hot or cold version. The latte is generously frothed and below it lies lots of orh nee chunks! This totally reminds me of the orhnee paste you get at wedding receptions!

All you need to do is to sit back and enjoy your meal! I especially love the marinated pork collar too. Marination was so well done!

SOUP OR STEW: Ginseng chicken (+$5). Or spicy tofu, kimchi stew or pork bone soup. Nothing beats a hot piping soup! The chicken portions given for the ginseng chicken soup were huge!

PANCAKE: Seafood Pancake (+$2). Or kimchi, chives or potatoes. My favourite korean pancakes is always seafood pancake!

JAPCHAE: Glass Noodle. Woah, please ORDER this! It was the MOST FLAVOURFUL japchae noodles I have ever eaten! So good even on its own!

The shop opens at 10am. I arrived a few minutes before 10am and thought I may be the most kiasu customer. But I was wrong. There were already 4 customers waiting around in the shop!

I got the Chicken Banh Mi ($5)! Initially wanted to get the $6 set (banh mi + drink), but the $6 set doesnt include the fresh soya milk that I wanted (costs $2 by itself). Learnt how to order based on previous customers before me and requested for less chilli for my order.

Packed it for takeaway order and the banh mi was still crispy when I got back! There were raw onions, cilantro, tomatoes, red chilli, cucumbers and lettuce! I especially like the added taste from the cilantro! Read reviews that the chicken was dry and most ppl’s least favourite. But it was alright for me! The shredded chicken was nicely marinated (had some coconuty milk taste to it?) and not overly dry. Good choice if you do not eat beef / pork / pate (pork liver) like me!

Will I come back again? Yes! 10/10

Indulge yourself once in a PINK moon!

Was surprised to find it crowded even on a friday mid-day timing! The cafe was fully occupied shortly after I arrived!

Tried the following items:

Raspberry lychee Rose Tea cake ($7.20): Was initially apprehensive about ordering the tea cakes, but having read good reviews for it I decided to give it a go! Also because it was sooo pretty! It was surprisingly moist, not hard/dense at all, and it was served warm! There was lychee bites in the cake too!

Grape Yakult Honey Sencha ($6.50): Got a drink because I didnt have stomach space for another cake! The drink was soooo pretty! In pink and purple hue! But other than that, I find it quite hard to justify its price tag though. But once in awhile to indulge and pamper yourself, I am all for it!

There are so many other cakes here that I want t o try, and their signature brown butter waffles with gelato! Will be back!

Local flavours gelato from @doegelato.sg !

Dropped a visit to this place as we were in Novena area. They serve pretty unique singapore gelato flavours like this Shan Zha and lemon puffs! Pretty interesting and unique! Between the two, i preferred the lemon puff flavour! Though i grew up eating Shan Zha, this gelato version took me some time to get accustomed to. I like that the gelato had bites of the shan zha and lemon puff biscuit in it to have more bite to it.
