$8 for 5 pieces // yuMZ!!! meat free dumplings with a filling that was made up of spinach, tofu, shiitake, gochujang and korean pickles. the combination of textures from the filling made it feel like a regular pork dumpling and the flavors worked well with each other!! the dumplings were pan fried to perfection (living up to the namesake of this shop), even though it was a tad bit oily. the garlic aioli sauce had strong garlic flavors which went well with the dumplings. quite affordable for the quality (+ it’s rare to find veggie dumplings), would definitely be back!!
$16.80 for double, $13.50 for single // absolutely love the soufflé pancakes from hoshino!! these are made to order, so there’s a waiting time of about 15-20 mins but it’s a worthy wait. pancakes are so soft and fluffy, and not too eggy either. it’s then doused with a slightly-bitter, earthy matcha sauce so it balances out the sweetness from the pancakes. and the combination of ice cream with the warm pancakes is also another treat to my palate !! wallet empty but heart and tummy v contented !! 10/10 recommend
$9 // not gonna lie, this was a very pretty looking dessert, but tastewise was pretty bad and i couldn’t even get through half of it (imagine how sad i was, after spending $9).
raspberry was overly sour and tasted very artificial, the sakura meringue on top was oppositely too sweet and the flavors clashed. there was also a thin layer of matcha but it’s flavor was overpowered by the other 2 components. to top it off, no idea why the pie crust base was so hard, and it was of this weird in between texture of cookie and flaky and it was a failure of a pie crust. yux, would not be back, especially considering the steep prices.
$8 // i like my cakes to be denser and i’m glad this suited my tastes!! (because matcha cakes normally tend to be on the lighter/spongy side) really strong matcha flavor, and the cake batter had small chunks of red beans embedded in it, so that added texture to the cake. the cream was light and its buttery flavor went well with the slightly bitter, not overly sweet matcha cake layers!!
$15 // opted for a non-ramen option in a place famous for their ramens are zero regrets!!! they were so generous with the sauce and salmon slices, that each perfectly torched salmon slice was enveloped in the creamy, umami mentaiko sauce. + the rice was somewhat smoked as well, probably from smoking the salmon slices and it just made the dish so much more delectable!! normally try to avoid eating rice but this was well worth all the calories ‼️‼️ 10/10 recommend
$8 per slice // couldn’t resist this cake that combined 2 of my favorite flavors, and for $8, i was served with a VERY generous slice. loved how the salted/buttery component of the caramel balanced out the sweetness from the red velvet cake, and it was simply delightful, to have the frosting cover each beautiful burgundy morsel. the cake was also extremely moist. being a big fan of red velvet cakes and having tried from various places, i would say few places do it well (sufficient chocolate + somewhat acidic taste) and chalk farm’s version was stellar!!
there were 25 cakes on display (!!) and i’ll definitely be back to try the other flavors
$15++ // AMAZING AND I AM IN LOVE WITH IMPOSSIBLE MEAT 😍😍😍😍 it has the same texture as beef (which i rly missed) but without the meaty/bloody taste that i always tasted when i used to eat actual beef, so this was great cos i get to eat “beef” without feeling any guilt!! + it’s very environmentally friendly too so all the better :-))) and this dish had a very earthy/mushroom-y taste to it, not sure if it was from the sauce or the meat but overall a great dish!!
rly love prive for its gorgeous restaurant decor (this one was a garden/outdoor setting with a backdrop of fairy lights which made it so magical) and high quality food. i also tried the chili crab pasta, chili & lime salmon, truffled mushroom pizza, oreo mudpie and hummingbird cake (what a mass consumption kind of day, come to think of it) and all the dishes were really amazing as well in terms of taste, quality, flavor combinations and texture. despite the relatively steep prices, i can’t wait to come back for more!!

$5.90 // i liked this a lot! *moist* texture and i felt like the flavors were quite unique. the yellow section is orange/citrus flavored, with orange rinds and the purple section was sweet/tart berry flavored and the sour and sweet combination really worked well. the top also has a bit of a cookie crumble so that really added texture as well!! enjoyed this thoroughly 🙂🙂🙂
this 2 storey cafe is amazeee to chill/study in!! such good vibes, very spacious with a lot of different types of seats (+ just love how it’s 2 storeys hahahah, similar to cafes u might find overseas)
$15++ // this was SO filling as it came with a stack of 3 really dense pancakes and it was drenched with the tiramisu mousse/cream thing. their hojicha flavor is seasonal so try it while u can!! i would say that the flavor pairing of the very sweet mascarpone cheese was balanced out by the strong, bitter, earthy notes of hojicha. there was a hojicha paste(?) between the layers of pancakes, powder dusted on top of the cream, a side serving of hojicha sauce and even hojicha jelly!! pancake wise, i felt like it was very dense and somewhat chewy?? it wasn’t very fluffy either, which is something is less to my preference. think macdonalds pancakes but harder and thicker. overall, the pancakes are done in a more traditional way? and it’s probably harder/chewier because of the special grains that they use in the dough (which is featured somewhere in the menu). it also comes with a scoop of ice cream at the side (and i opted to switch the standard vanilla one to matcha) :-)
it was a good dish and i would recommend trying it if u r a big fan of hojicha!!
vegan dark chocolate tart // $11.50 // gluten-free chocolate tart with a dark chocolate ganache filling, salted caramel sauce (supposedly) and topped with cacao nibs. love me a good vegan dessert, and this one was done spectacularly!! could taste hints of coconut in the tart base, and it was of a softer cookie texture (ie: not crunchy and more crumbly). it paired well with the dark chocolate ganache, which tended more towards a bitter side. couldn’t really taste/see any of the salted caramel sauce layer that was described in the menu, but the flavourful notes of the chocolate ganache and tart base left me more than satisfied. gluten free so less carbs??? hMMM
checkers cake // $9.50 // cheap thrills but the checkboard appearance of this cake with the alternating squares of vanilla and chocolate cake made me so excited and i just had to get a slice for myself!! it looked like a simple cake of chocolate and vanilla sponge with a vanilla chantilly cream, but it was so much more!! the cake was so light and fluffy, yet still managed to be packed with intense flavour notes and when eaten together with the layer of soft cream and thick dark chocolate ganache (which was more on the sweet side, unlike the ganache used in the tart), it sparked so much joy on my palate!!!!!
$25 // there are those days when you consume a meal that is probably equivalent to your weekly calorie intake, and today is one of them. this dish was superrrrr sinful and rich, but also very yumz!! a generous chunk of battered soft-shell crab as the patty, drenched in mentaiko sauce, topped with ikura (which gave nice pops of fish roe oil(?) with each bite, good texture!!), a slice of melted cheese and sandwiched between 2 fluffy, toasted hamburger buns!!! SO much carbs, but thankfully there was a single piece of lettuce to let me feel like i was being healthy uh (jkjk it didn’t, but have this dish anyway, it was great and u deserve a treat once in awhile!!)
this restaurant is quite a hidden gem, as it is situated in a corner of south beach tower within one of their blocks, but very chilled out ambience once you enter and the service staff were prompt and efficient, which made my experience here a fond one :-)
