My love for great pizzas started right here a decade ago when the restaurant first graced our shores. I remember telling everyone how I had the best pizzas in Singapore and fast forward 10 years later I might still say the same. With a lot more knowledge of Osteria Mozza and the lady behind it Nancy Silverton thanks to Netflix, being able to dine here again for a joyous occasion like Father’s Day just etches Osteria Mozza deeper in my heart.
Last, as a result of being late, to the lunch table, my first bite starts with a refreshing bite of the chicken salad that makes chicken breast delicious. As I was famished, I mistook the meat for a crustacean meat for split seconds- imagine the chops of being able to make chicken breast have a texture like crab/ lobster.
The pizza crust here is still my favourite, crisp with pockets of air bubbles from well fermented dough. 3 pizzas easily polished by 5, we had the meat lovers for all the Italian meat cuts you can get; Alla Benno which puts all Hawaiian pizzas in their humble probably defeated places. The last was the Funghi Misti for the poser vegetarian individuals in the family aka mum and I.
Beyond the pizzas, we had solid mains of the Westholme Wagyu Tagliata and Duck Ragu. The former was premium cut done right with a side of arugula/ rucola, parmigiana reggiano cheese shavings and balsamic. Latter of freshly made maltagliati tossed in comforting duck ragu.
Because I was late and had no part in ordering from the menu, I tell myself I have to come back for the mozzarella bar🙃

You don’t get 1 for 1 savings here but warranted given the quality of fuss free Japanese fare Kei Kaisendon offers.
I was happy to get a valuable meal of 2 dons, chicken yakitoris, clam miso soup, salad and japanese green tea with my Burpplebeyond redemption.
The Chirashi like mix in the signature Kei Kaisendon had enough chunky sashimi to keep me happy and the Unagi fish is one of the better ones you’d find even for the usual price you are paying.
P.s: yes that is a fried egg looking item you spy on the Unagi Don for the mother who is adverse to soft boil/ onsen eggs, thank you to the staff making this to accede to the dowager’s request.
That Zermett recommended salted egg chicken that was decent at best.
But nice place for zichar if u r around the area 😬
Go to place in the East for coffee and bakes 🙌🏻
Today I had a sip of my dining companion’s nitro cold brew and am sold to get it the next time we come. The smoothness and in her words “nuttiness” of the brew was very pleasant and a steal for the price tag IMHO.
Nostalgia points for this place, Toa Payoh creamier was my go to during our JC days
Now that we have an outlet in the East, a testament to the brand standing the test of time 🙌🏻
On a sweltering afternoon the seasalt Gula Melaka was a nice respite on some of the best simple artisan waffles in Singapore. However the roasted pistachio was not my favourite just on biased personal preference for we had 2 better version a few roads down 😶
During the work week my mind (sometimes) daydreams about the good thing(s) I ate over the weekend and the above appears this week repeatedly.
On a slightly more laid back Saturday with mum, I was in awe as I forked mouthfuls of this delicious rye broffin. Only the best ingredients go into this squared sweet, think melted chocolate couverture, fresh raspberries and sea salt. Once frowning upon the prices of the sourdough loaves here when I first read about anna’s on social media, I am officially a converted patron of the sourdough produce.
Sheepishly I tell mum we need to visit more often please. Especially when they serve accompanying gryphon tea blends which we find the most reliable teas in the market now.
Sometimes happiness is brain freezing yourself with milk tea taiwan snow ice. This one had a pearl looking topping with a way bouncier and agar like texture, of which I preferred to tapioca pearls that could get too jelak after awhile.
10/10 at the top of my mind when I crave something sweet within a radius of 10 minutes from home.
When your mum greets you with a Cinnabon that usually has a snaking queue from individuals on to try the new food hype which has not seem to die down for Cinnabon; you thank mum for the love.
While this was a good cinnamon bun with a chewier white bread, at $6.50 a bun it was a good to try once and maybe just once. IMHO softer brioche like cinnamon buns from other local cafe-bakeries any day 😶
With quite some liberty to live to eat on the weekends recently - it feels like we are on a “streak” to clock different les amis food group concept #1
First a dinner date with mum at KOAL that I’ve bookmarked for awhile and the food does not disappoint. The 2 mains we had were starkly a hit and a miss. The tiger prawns was the former, 2 succulent ones to be exact in white wine butter sauce that were so easy to polish we wished there was more. Then the latter cut of steak we got was decent but forgettable, probably the blame on us for getting the “cheapest” cut.
I’d love to return to try other plates, and KOAL is another good place for different occasions that doesn’t exactly break the bank.
