The first year we dine out for the reunion meal after the demise of my 大姨 and we miss her presence on such occasions. I have take it upon me to celebrate when my 干妈 and 姨姨 for the many remaining years I can. This year we visit a more casual family fare restobar recommended to me many year ago.

I reckon that MYO prides itself in comforting Chinese fare; the highlights of our set menu were the Lou Hei, Wagyu beef and claypot Garoupa. I prefer Lou Hei with fish but the abalone was cooked softly to complement the fresh platter of fibre and carbs with a house-made fruit sauce. Then the premium and well executed wagyu beef and fish gives you the bang for your buck in this set menu.

Another comforting dish was the signature MYO claypot chicken that had braised soft chicken meat and cabbage soaked in a glistening starched broth. Excellent with plain carbs, but not too salty on its own too.

My only gripe were the slightly tough abalone on the siew mai, and pork ribs in the other dishes we had.

A friend who frequents said we shouldn’t leave without trying the coconut milk dessert here, she was right for the husk of edible delicious coconut flesh had a Hokkaido milk based pudding with peach gum that would be a great conclusion to any meal here.

One thing about cycling to Les Mains is being able to takeaway the above from Bread & Bun. I’d like freshly baked bread everyday please!
The brioche loaf was homely, lovely and good on its own. Almond croissant felt like a home baked airy sort sans the delicate defined croissant layers, but was still nice with an almond paste filling.
The next visit here I’d be getting the sourdough loaves.

Brother declared this the best wanton noodles in JB and his SOP every time he drives in. They were no doubt very good with all the right things you would want from this Asia noodles dish.

Only open in the evening a neighbour Lok lok pushcart gives you some snacks to munch on after an already satisfying plate of noodles.

Found out one of my favourite cream (polo) buns place does good Hokkaido milk cream croons too!

Treat yoself with four thick white toasts buttered and slabbed generously with chocoro sauce and corn flakes. All I could say was right up my alley when my middle name is “outrightly” bread. While this might not be the cheapest in indo terms, it’s a good portion to share if you are ordering it as a snack.

No bread from Cedele I dislike and this one just adds some festivity cheers to the reliable repertoire.

Pro Tip: The softer bread you can find at Cedele are their brioches/ buns.

Ex-colleague who is Indonesian swears by the kopi and kopi kenangan (Indonesian beans with milk and brown sugar); I would like to second that and swear by the roti served here too, cheap and great - nothing artisan fancy, but reliable and possibly a weekly routine.

Haven’t have many croffles to begin with but these mini croissants cooked on a waffle griddle were flaky on the exterior and chewy on the inside; quite a delight.

Cycled to les mains only to find that they’ve stop baking tarts that were highly recommended - thankfully there were still sweets in non-chilled baked cakes.
I had the sticky date caramel cake which tasted homely but what made this visit delightful was the helpful and cheery staff here. Because of that this becomes an excellent place to people watch and hang out in the day.

Beautiful cakes are my weakness and this one from Patisserie Cle fell in that category. Collecting it in a pretty box, the stereotyped masculine flavors were picked for a female colleague who loves whisky neat 🤓
A decadent bite with each fork, I especially like the cashew nut brittle which paired a soft nut with crunchy brittle. While we love our booze and wouldn’t mind stronger whisky notes, this was a great chocolate cake!

May 2023 be filled with bread runs *cross fingers*
I try the cream pan from Gokuku for the first time and am in awe of the strong vanilla bean note in the cream filling. The saying “一分钱一分货” rings true for Gokuku as usual.
My go to chocolate items continue to please, for a sweet non-bread choice the crispy choco is amazing with a milk chocolate and apricot jam coat. The mochi couverture chocolate bun on the other hand is a chewy cocoa bun sweetened with chocolate chips, white chocolate and orange peels - flavour combinations that are faultless.
