The fried porridge was formerly sold at Macpherson and has since moved to Foch Road now. It comes in a claypot and has tasty ingredients like shredded cuttlefish, dried shrimps, diced yam, fried shallots, a generous serving of crispy pork lard and spring onions for $15 (large). You probably can't imagine how it tastes but I tell you, it's definitely worth a try!

Didn't have the time to wait for the new batch to be ready (in 15 mins) last evening, hence I made a preorder and collected this morning (they were still warm!) The filling in the taro pie tasted smooth like the traditional yam paste dessert. Thai milk tea tasted like pudding and the matcha does have a strong matcha taste (duh). Of the 3 that I tried, taro pie is still the best!

@aprilbakerysg is having an ongoing promotion until 31 May - Buy 4 get 1 free! Don't be disappointed if you don't see your desired flavours on display, simply check with the friendly counter staffs as they are likely to have new batches in the kitchen. All pies are priced at $2 each - pretty reasonable! #aprilbakerysg #burpple

Cafe 566 sits quietly in the industrial area at Sungei Kadut. The restaurant has a safari theme both at the entrance as well as the interior. You would see many animal statues like dinosaurs, giraffes, lion, and many others. It is definitely a love for kids! Cafe 566 has a large indoor seating capacity, and has an outdoor seating at the back of the restaurant. It seems that they have satay and rojak too (probably served only at night?).

We patronised the restaurant for lunch and it was quiet. We were the first customers and even when we left at 1pm plus, there was only one other table. In pic, anti-clockwise from top: Whole Curry Fish Head ($53), Crispy Chicken ($32), Dry Fried Prawns ($40), Hot Plate Beancurd ($18), Fried Mee Sua ($24), Sambal Kangkong ($12), Sliced Sotong with Salted Egg ($35), Marmite Pork Ribs ($20). Missing from the picture is the Crab Meat & Fish Maw Thick Soup ($35) - they had a large portion, with all 12 of us getting a rice bowl of soup. You would be very pleased to know that all prices are nett, i.e. no additional charges for GST and service charge.

Disappointment: Sliced Sotong with Salted Egg, Crab meat & fish maw thick soup.

Two Chefs is well known for their 三捞河粉 and 牛油排骨. For 10 adults, we had the big portions of the former 2 dishes, 咸蛋鸡肉, 芙蓉蛋, 3-egg spinach, chili lala, sweet potato leaves with sambal, cereal squid and golden mushroom beancurd. I felt cheated by the cereal squid - it was deep fried with flour then stir fried with cereal. Basically you could taste 2 very different layers. 😤 The golden mushroom beancurd was normal (even though it was said to be their signature homemade tofu), and the sweet potato leaves didn't taste fantastic (my mum's tastes better). Damage was $14 per pax.

This stall has been around for some time but it's the first time that I tried. The Uji Matcha Cup ($5.20) is nothing fanciful other than having a pretty strong matcha taste. I was eating the soft serve for 15 mins and it didn't really melt at all. Hmm....

Mata Thai is a halal certified Thai eatery located at a quiet corner of a HDB block in Bishan. The staff taking orders are very welcoming and enthusiastic about their signature and popular dishes. 10 of us came here for lunch and ordered dishes like Tom Yum Seafood Soup (as in picture, $16), Thai Style Fish Tempura ($28), 2 sets of Thai Style Pandan Leaf Chicken - 5pcs ($12), Stir Fried Squid ($15), Thai Style Fried Kangkong ($10), Pineapple Fried Rice ($10), Kway Teow with Prawns ($10). Other than the kway teow and kangkong which I thought are a little disappointing, the rest are pretty flavourful and up to restaurant standards. Would visit again!

Mata Thai is a halal certified Thai eatery and sits in a quiet corner of a HDB block at Bishan. The Thai Iced Milk Tea ($2) is served unmixed - you could clearly see the 2 layers of tea and milk. Not the best that I've tried though.

Affordable and good Claypot Rice. It's said that this stall used to operate at Clementi and has moved to the food centre at Holland Drive. The dinner crowd at this food centre are here just for the claypot rice. It is recommended that you place your order beforehand so you don't have to wait for too long for the food to be served. We ordered in advance and got our food within 15 mins, and 14 of us shared 5 pots and 1 soup. Average damage is about $8 per pax.

2nd visit and the portion never disappoints! Medium bowl ($14.90 nett) comes with 1 Base + salad, 2 proteins and 4 toppings. Choose a premium topping like avocado, onsen egg or seasoned jellyfish @ $1.50.

Ivins comes to our minds whenever we crave for Peranakan food. The dishes come in small servings (suitable for 2 to 4 pax to share). Because of the small servings and relatively cheap price, one tends to order many dishes. The new menu list recommends 2 pax: 4 to 6 dishes, 3-4 pax: 6 to 8 dishes, 8 pax: 6 to 8 dishes of 2 each. Nonya Chap Chye (1st from bottom), Beef Rendang (3rd from bottom), and Honey Pork(not shown) are some of the popular dishes that customers usually order. Come early or make reservations!

Introduced here by a friend and little did we know that there is actually a halal tze char restaurant sitting in prinsep street! Reasonably priced and these generous portioned dishes feed 7 adults. Try the roasted chicken!
