Chilling out in a space of greenery is so relaxing and zen feeling. You Are My Sunshine is a korean-inspired brunch & dessert cafe with a salon concept that comes together with it.
We decided to drop by for their Kroffles as our tea-break. It’s croissant pressed down using the waffle maker, retaining its buttery yet airy croissant texture with the crispy edges of a waffles. Pretty good touch with all the nuts, berries and chocolate drizzle!
Not being able to travel overseas has given opportunities to business to bring the overseas taste locally. +886 bistro along Jalan Besar serves simple Taiwanese fare.
Their Scallion Chicken rice has a nice fragrance from the scallion oil and meat sauce. It is also very homely tasting. Opposed to their typical fried crispy chicken, we decided to go for their Imperial Pork Chop with the founder’s great grandparents recipe. It’s pretty unique. Not greasy, the skin is actually a little chewy. The pork may not be as juicy, but it’s tender enough.
Now is just missing the taiwan vibes.
The first trying some Turkish food locally at Sahara Bar & Restaurant. Quite a pleasant first experience especially their appetizers!
We had their Cacik. It’s like served chilled, yoghurt mixed with cucumber, garlic and herb. It’s kind of light and refreshing, and makes you wanting to have more.
Their lamb is well seasoned with herbs and spices and done pretty well. It compliments very well with the spicy and tangy salsa salad. Their Kofte lamb on the other hand is a little on the tougher end. Neither of them has a strong gamy smell.
Their dessert homemade kunefe is interesting too. It’s shredded filo pastry filled with cheese and baked. On itself there’s not much flavor to it, it’s plain and chewy but once you add the cream and syrup, it’s a whole new level.
A good substitute for a trip to turkey 😅.
When someone mentions Fortune Center, usually the first thing that comes to your mind will be either Japanese Izakaya or vegetarian food. Least you’ll expect is a handmade pasta place there.
It is a pretty modernized and chic cafe. In contrast to the stalls there, price is also definitely on the higher end. What you’re paying for is definitely for the handmade and quality stuff.
Pasta are handmade, so there’s a nice al dente chewiness to it as opposed to hard texture. There’s also a variety of pasta flavors to choose from such as Roasted Capsicum spaghetti, beetroot fusilli, Pumpkin Rigatoni, Squid Ink Tagliatelle whereby flavors may changes from time to time.
I like how their flavors are bold and rich yet not gelard. If you like truffle and something creamy, go for their Truffle Cacio E Pepe. If you like something more hearty, tomato base, with a slight roasted kind of flavors and want to try something uncommon, can go for their Lamb Merguez.
Portions that you see here are tasting portions and it ranges from $14-$19.
We had their signatures which include the Softshell Crab Pasta & Iberico Pork Ribeye steak.
Their Softshell Crab pasta comes with chilli crab sauce base. It definitely has that fiery kick. But the flavor balance is a little on the heavy side. There’s sweetness in the spice but it’s also a little overly salty. Portion is nonetheless pretty generous. The Iberico Pork Ribeye steak on the other hand will be to your liking if you enjoy the good ratio of fats to meat. I find it alittle too fatty to my preference but the meat is moist and tender. The charred pineapple slice added an additional sweet refreshing depth to the otherwise savory steak. It’s also a clever choice of using curly fries instead of shoestring fries too!
Looking for a waffle ice cream place? Check out Three’s a Crowd cafe. Their original outlet was at Tampines area and then they had this second outlet near Little India mrt station.
They had a couple options for their waffles and we went for their churros waffles which was dusted with cinnamon powder. It was fluffy, a little chewy and had a nice little crisp.
Comes with a pretty extensive choice of flavors. We had their grapefruit and earl grey scoops. Their ice cream is smooth and creamy while their gelato is pretty refreshing. Another waffle place to be added into the list!
A quaint cafe along the stretch of Kampong bahru.
We had their Orange Custard Brioche and Chocolate donut. The donut was overflowing with thick yet not too sweet chocolate filling while the orange custard brioche is light and chewy with a nice orangey aroma to it. Love how these 2 have a contrast in their texture too, one is denser the other is airier.
A New Zealand steak and lamb restaurant located in Marina One offer a pretty contemporary, modern dining experience with very attentive servicing stuff.
We decided to try out the Burpple beyond menu which is a 4 course menu - Dashi Braised Pork Belly with Green Pea Puree, Blue Mussel Potage, Ocean Beef Ribeye and ending with Dark Chocolate Mousse & Raspberry Sorbet. On top of it, we decided to add a lobster bisque too.
I don’t really have much to complain. Their food are all so delicate and delicious. I really like their thick, creamy and flavorful tasting soup! I also like how they have use herb oil to elevate the taste of their mussel protege and black garlic for their lobster bisque. Needless to say, their ribeye is also done beautifully. You know you can trust the quality of the steak whenever it is served to you plainly! There’s 3 condiments that comes with it - wasabi, brown sauce and sea salt! Ending with the sweets, the refreshing raspberry sorbet cut right through the richness of chocolate mousse giving it a really good balance of flavors.
It’s quite a good deal Wakanui!
An interesting find of Cuban-Caribbean fusion cuisine at La Boca.
The flavors of the dishes mainly come from different herbs and spices, which I would say it’s kind of moderately intense.
Some of the highlights we had include their Pulpo Gallego ($17) ie Octopus with chorizo and Spanish paprika. It tasted like the Chinese version of baby squid head you find in zichar stall but doused in spices. Slight crisp to that chewiness. Their Jerk chicken poppers definitely goes well with a glass of beer! The last dish was this clams based dish in sambal and kind of peppery sauce? It has a nice little fiery kick to it!
Don’t forget to redeem your Burpple beyond 1-1 deal on this!
Not the cheapest place, but LUMO definitely had one of the best ambiance, food and cocktails!
Personally I like their Lavender Brew ($20) & Devil Breeze ($22). The lavender hits you first before the aroma and flavor of the espresso comes to you. A spirit forward yet well balanced drink. In contrast the Devil’s breeze is a pretty cooling and refreshing drink with the watermelon blend. All their cocktails is so goood and affordable!
We started with their Smoked Cod Liver Taramasalata ($18). It’s something very different. I was expecting like pate style but it’s smooth, citrusy and creamy with that umaminess from the cavier. So goood. Their Sakura Pork Chop ($36) & Argentinian Ribeye ($42) is done to perfection too. They are pretty lightly seasoned so you could taste the original sweetness. The flavors are brightened up with their jus and salt, mustard served at the side. The Sakura Pork was melt in your mouth, moist and tender with the fat ratio.
After which ending the meal with their Apple Wood Smoked Ice Cream ($13) was the right choice. The flavors is mind blowing good. It’s an interesting combination of something sweet, yet light and cool from the cucumber, then with something savory like butter corn, and further elevated with Icelandic sea salt giving that burst of flavors all in one mouth.
This is so gooood! Can’t wait to go back to try their other cocktails and dishes!
Have you tried a sourdough based pizza? It’s actually becoming my new favorite for pizza or perhaps it’s because of Plank Sourdough Pizza where they have done a good job on their sourdough pizza. Beside being healthier, I like how the texture is actually soft, chewy and tangy. Pizza hand stretched to super thin and with generous amount of toppings on it! They usually have a monthly special in addition to their usuals.
We went for their Chilli Crab Pizza (which was their monthly special) and their Pizza 4, pulled BBQ chicken, cranberry compote with Camembert and I added an additional topping of parma ham!
I like how distinct each pizza brings out the flavour. The chilli crab pizza, is tangy and has that kick of spiciness. Not only does it has a generous amount of crab meat, it also comes with crotons and a sunny side up! So loving it! In contrast to Pizza 4 which has a little sweetness, some creamy and cheesiness with a little savoriness cutting through it. Their 2 pizza is more than enough to fit 4-5 people!
Beside a IG worthy place, we got to give some credits to the food Knock Knock cafe serve!
We had their Grilled Beef Steak taco, Tiger Prawn ‘Hei Bi Hiam’ Aglio Olio, Seafood ‘laksa’ pasta, Honey Thyme Grilled Chicken and their Knockknock brunch. The prices ranges from about $17-$20++ which is quite decent given their portion. It’s about a 5min walk from kallang mrt. If you have Burpple beyond, then it’s even a sweeter deal because it’s 1-1 for their mains and pasta!
Some of their flavors creations are interesting too like their Grilled Steak taco which is served with peanut sauce. It’s a combination of korean with local style that has that sweet nuttiness flavor. Their pasta flavors of hae bi hiam and laksa are well intensified, and probably a little too much. The giam giam and aromatic of hae bee hiam and coconutiness of the laksa is quite bright in the dish! If cutdown a little it will be just nice. Their grilled chicken is pretty much on point, grilled to perfection leaving it tender and juicy.
A quaint cafe place worth a little checking out!
