First time to try this much vaunted vadai in Joo Chiat area. I must say I was disappointed by the dense and tough vadai as opposed to fluffy ones I am used too. Perhaps taking away and not consuming immediately did not help.
I haven't had many Vadais, but this one is simply amazing. I had the prawn vadai ($1) which comes with 2 small prawns and a complementary green chilli. Just out of the fryer, it was crispy on the outside, light and airy on the inside. The prawns lent a delicious moreishness to the vadai, and the dough itself is super tasty - very fragrant without being too heavy handed on the spice. Take it with a bite of the green chilli and this'll be one of the best ways you can spend a dollar around.
With a lap full of vadai, that's how I roll.
And by the way, did you know besides the bestselling classic "Prawn", there're tasty vadai options of "Ikan Bilis & Peanut" and "Vegetarian" too? 😋
YAAAAAAASSSS!!
"Gina's Vadai", a familiar name with many of us who live in the Eastern side of Singapore, has settled in a new home in the basement of Dunman Food Centre. You will find the ever lovely Gina at stall no. 6, a corner unit facing the famous "tau kwa pau". It was sheer pleasure to sink my teeth into one of her amazing prawn vadai's again after so long.
Studded with two small prawns, the delicately fragrant fried dough was done perfectly so it's crispy around the edges, but cushiony everywhere else. It is of course, a must to alternate chomping on it with a bite of fresh green chilli. 😋😋😋
Something tells me I will be visiting this hawker centre even more frequently now.
Ikan Bilis Vadai
💸 $1.50
This is my favourite type of Indian snack! And hers is the best I’ve had so far! Very crispy exterior with lots of ikan bilis and crunchy peanut bits 🥜 love to have it with the green chilli 😋 will try the prawn or veggie vadai next
