It's dinner time and I'm still full from today's lunch 😂 Which goes to show what a tummy-filler the Steak & Eggs at one-month-old BirdBird at Frankel really is.
Not that it should surprise considering there's a 150gm piece of USDA striploin sprawled over the thick slice of sourdough toast that's been smothered in smashed avocado. And there's the dynamic duo of fried eggs as well. Hearty stuff indeed.

I’ve walked past this section several times but sadly never once noticed this bakery. 💔 Apparently, it’s been here for three years(!!) and they bake some of the most uhmayzing pita bread on the island daily and supply various hotels and restaurants including Common Man Coffee Roasters and Fat Prince.

You can purchase fresh pita from their in-house assortment — white ($1), wholemeal ($1.50), sesame seeds, garlic, za’atar ❤️❤️, Spicy New Orleans/cajun ($2.20 for any with toppings) — along with various dips to enjoy on the spot or to take home (they’re on Deliveroo too!).

Oh, and they don’t use canned chickpeas for their hummus; they soak the chickpeas overnight to soften before cooking instead. So next time you’re planning a mezze party or craving for good pita and spreads, you know where to go!

Omi oh my! This right here is some mighty serious indulgence for beef lovers — just look at the amazing marbling of this marvel! 😍😍😍
Dip a sheet of this prized protein into the simmering sweet and umami sukiyaki broth, and then dunk it into the beaten (sashimi-grade) egg to give it a creamy, velvety coat and to temper the flavour-heavy broth.
Take your time to savour each and every bite that will bring you to your knees then let it glide down your throat with ease. 😍

Don't be too quick to belittle the modest-looking basket of veggies as it's filled with superb Japanese produce to complement the beef, including a fluffy piece of marshmallow-like tofu (one is not gonna be enough!).
Make sure you also opt for the additional Sukiyaki Rice ($12) — imagine the intensified sukiyaki broth with extra punches from the poached beef and veggies' essence with egg sitting on a bed of rice and finished with a confetti of truffle shavings!

While this is from the dinner menu, you can request this during lunch if the Premium Sukiyaki Set ($58) isn't baller enough for you/the occasion.

Welcoming a new picnic concept, Suzette, a dessert bar is set to push out a new weekend brunch menu and starting today you can enjoy them outdoors along the Esplanade Waterfront. From the same team behind Lola’s Café and On The Table, Suzette aims to stay true to their roots by bringing new dining experiences that would excite consumers.

Complete with a lovely wicker basket (rental with a deposit of $50), you too can have the perfect weekend afternoon picnicking in style. Great for families and a small group of friends, the savoury menu offers items such as Pulled Duck Burger ($17), Quinoa Rice Bowl ($16), Ultimate Breakfast Croissant ($14) and Cold Angel Hair Pasta with Seared Salmon ($18).

Tossed in a light miso sesame dressing with charred corn, pan seared salmon and a perfect 63 degree egg, the cold pasta salad was as refreshing as it sounded. For something more hearty - the succulent Pulled Duck Burger, the meat was moist and tender which was a given as it was prepared in the confit method but you also get a bit of charred flavour as it was pan-fried before serving. Spiced with a secret mix, the flavourful meat was complemented with their fresh mango salsa and lime chipotle sauce, the touch of acidity balanced and cut through the heaviness of the duck. Loving the sweetness of the mangoes, it was not overpowering like many other salsa that I have tried in the past as well so you can taste all the components coming together. Yum!

This was a hosted meat by @imsuzette.sg. Many thanks to Teresa for hosting us, and Burpple for the invite!

$18.90 for a bowl of noodles in a market food centre? YES BECAUSE THERE'S A WHOLE LOBSTER IN THERE (plus shells and prawns)! The broth didn't disappoint and will satisfy all sorts of crustacean cravings. It was garlicky, sweet from the fresh seafoods and packed with umami goodness - just imagine the beehoon soaking up all these rich flavours, mmm hmm!

It's not that obvious in the photo but this came with a huge serving of noodles and works rather well for sharing between 2 if you're not too hungry. Other noodle soup options include normal prawns, 'sumo' big prawns and crayfish, along with other dishes like Japanese Lala Soup and Grilled Clams.

Sumo is managed by young hawkers and their offerings have been selling out quite quickly, so head down earlier or drop a call to them at 92992621 before dropping by.

📍 Sumo Big Prawn Noodle - Blk 628 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4 #01-72 Singapore 560628

It's pretty much Celebrity Deathmatch: Sandwich Edition between Hungry Bazterds and Park Bench Deli, especially with both offering up their own renditions of the esteemed cheesesteak sandwich. So, who's the winner?

HB's cheesesteak sandwich is stuffed to the gills with thin strips of shabu shabu beef, much like PBD's, but Hungry Bazterds, living up to their name, adds four more thick slices of utterly divine bovine atop the already meaty monstrosity. Each slice of that beef is good enough to go it solo, being tender and jam packed full of savory goodness. Better yet, one of the slices I got was the tip of the beef it was portioned from, allowing me to enjoy the extra powerful flavors on the crust. As for the slices of beef itself, PBD's is just that little bit more tender, which is insane considering that HB's beef is already strikingly tender.

The sumptuous secret 4 cheese sauce is considerably more liquid than PBD's, the former having a tendency to dribble out of the bun upon every bite while PBD's stellar sauce clings on to everything it touches like a toddler to his favorite stuffed animal. As for the bun itself, HB's brioche roll is softer in texture and absorbs more of the umami sauce while PBD goes for that crusty roll to counter the softness of the beef.

Here's where HB pulls out the ace up its sleeve: unlike PBD, HB has melted cheese at the bottom of the bun, leading to that desirable, sexy cheese stretch and even more flavor!

So which one did I prefer? It was a ridiculously tough choice for me as both were extraordinarily divine in their own right, but I preferred PBD's by the slightest of margins only thanks to their crusty roll that added an excellent variety of texture to the cheesesteak. This food war will continue for as long as these two joints continue to serve up phenomenal cheesesteak sandwiches, and this beef ain't going nowhere.

The usual buns have been replaced by DEEP FRIED MAC & CHEESE PATTIES (!!), moist, stretchy and cheesy. Of course the usual components are still there - cheese, tomatoes, moist beef patties and lettuce 🍔, served with sweet potato fries!! Now, that's a perfect Fri-yay food representative!!

(Take a break from the Izakaya post because this stall is too good.) .

After the recent Michelin guide, Chinatown complex had been flooded with the tourists who are looking for the cheapest Michelin- worthy food. Even the surrounding soy sauce chicken stalls were also been blessed by the Michelin guide. .
|
However, this stall was safely hidden by the crowd. Many years back the owner, Mr Cheung, fell ill and closed his stall for many months. After recovering from the illness, the quantity of soy sauce chicken and char siew dropped dramatically because the lack of physical strength. Thankful, his son decided to learn from the master. Even with their small production, Mr Cheung insisted to use the traditional charcoal oven to roast all his meat. .
|
I was there by 830am and there was already a short Q. Patiently waiting for my turn, the smell of the soy sauce already made me to drool.
When I finally had my hand on this plate of awesomeness, I immediately looked for the nearest seat. Took a quick shot and didn't bother to activate my timer. .

Grandpa and grandma chatting in Cantonese in the background. Someone playing some old Chinese songs in their cassette player. I thought I had time travelled back into the 1990s. But when I took a bite on the soy sauce chicken, my world PAUSED. The whole world turned mute. All my senses was channeled to my taste bud. .

Perfectly "sous vide" soy sauce chicken with a hint of Chinese herb. Right amount of saltiness which seasoned the noodle nicely. To make things better, THEIR CHAR SIEW was out of this world. Mr Cheung used the golden ratio pork (2meat : 1 fat) to roast his char siew. The fatty part magnified the tastiness and cameralized bits were insanely delicious. When I thought this plate could not get any better, I bite into the ginger bits. The comforting spiciness spiked the flavors chart. The next thing I noticed my plate was empty. 😭😭😭

It's been a while since I had such good roast HK meats! While I'm a HUGE fan of the fatty kind, I appreciate how tasty the thin-skinned, roasted kind are. HOWEVER, what you should really come for is the Crispy Roasted Pork. WAH this sio bak is bomb! The fats just below the super crispy skin literally melts in your mouth! 😱😱😱 Definitely comes highly recommended!

As I sit here having my having my Crabcake Benedict at Collective Brewers, I'm already regretting not ordering their signature Beef Rendang Grilled Cheese. Slow cooked till almost falling apart, the rendang is unctuously saucy, spicy and boasts hints of tangy sweetness. The melted provolone and cheddar just barely manages to hold in all that oozy goodness in between the brioche slices.

Tucked away in an industrial neighbourhood in Bukit Batok, The RawR Kitchen serves comforting Italian pastas and award-winning beers by On Tap Brewery. This no-frills restaurant-cum-microbrewery isn't easy to find, but before you dismiss it, we promise the arduous journey to the West is worth it. Come on the weekend with a group of serious pint-pourers for the Beer Buffet ($35) — a value-for-money two hours of free-flow craft beers. There are eleven on rotation, of which you should look out for the crowd-pleasing Wheat Beer (second place in the Asia Beer Medal Awards) and the alcoholic Root Beer. The latter pairs well with the lip-smacking Deep Fried Pork Belly ($9), which Burpple Tastemaker Xing Wei Chua describes as "immensely fatty and juicy, lightly crusted with a melt-in-the-mouth texture that is simply done yet addictive". If you're working around the area, swing by with your colleagues for lunch and have the unbelievably tasty Bolognese ($11). The humble dish of linguine is topped with beef that's been slow-cooked for four hours in a homemade tomato sauce.
Avg price: $25 per person

While I enjoyed the foolproof marriage of chocolate and banana in Cacaoholic ($6), I ended up liking this one more.
Raspberry, banana and soy milk may sound like a weird combination, but this worked (mostly because it was predominantly raspberry, me thinks). There was just enough banana to tame the berry's tanginess without tipping the flavour too much, while the soy milk taste could not even be detected, which is probably a good thing in this case.

My weakness for mango and popping pomegranate arils possibly contributed to my fondness for this, and then there's the coconut chips and sunflower seeds that added a lovely texture!
