The moment I reached Niigata, I couldn't contain my excitement as I hurriedly made my way to Ponshukan Niigata Station. It was like stepping into a sake lover's paradise, and I was eager to immerse myself in the diverse world of sake.
As I entered the establishment, I exchanged 500 Yen for 5 sake tasting coins which is their standard package, ready to embark on a delightful tasting adventure. With over 100 different types of sake to choose from, sorted by geographical location, I knew I was in for a tipsy treat. From Junmai to Junmai Daiginjo, there was something for every discerning palate.
The setup was impressive, with sake dispensing machines neatly organised by geographical location. It was like a treasure trove of regional flavours and craftsmanship. I carefully selected my choices, ensuring a diverse range of sake to sample.
With my tasting cup placed on the machine, I inserted the coins into the machine, watching in anticipation as the sake poured gracefully into the cup. Each sip was a revelation, showcasing the unique characteristics and nuances of the sake I had chosen.
Over the course of three days, I returned to Ponshukan Niigata Station, eager to continue my sake exploration. With each visit, I uncovered new favourites and expanded my appreciation for sake.
If you ever find yourself in Niigata, make sure to carve out some time for a visit to Ponshukan. It's a sake lover's dream come true, and an experience you won't want to miss.
