It seems like I’ll be eating my way through the flavours so here we are. Panna Cotta tasted like the real thing to me - rich, creamy, and dotted with some berry sauce. This is definitely an indulgent treat.
But to my colleague, it tasted like condensed milk, so your mileage may vary.
First time trying aged Japanese Oolong! It’s an interesting experience because the first taste is less oolong and more nutty of the notes. It’s only as the tea cools down that the floral notes become stronger, making this a tea to be savoured slowly.
This is definitely one of the most unusual teas I’ve seen in Singapore and I definitely want to come back to try their other teas!
My sister recommended this to me and she definitely knows me well because I loved it! There was a generous helping of mentaiko sauce on the very tender salmon, and the seasoned rice was delicious (I love the extra texture that the tobiko gives). Even though there were quite a few ingredients, they all came together very well and formed an excellent rice bowl.
If you like miso soup, you should add $1 to get a bowl! The soup is slightly sweet (maybe because of the onions?) and has a unique citrus tang from the yuzu. It’s amazing and a great accompaniment to the rice.
I found out about this place when one of my colleagues treated me to this! The ice resembles powdery soft snow and is a delight to eat, but what makes this stand out is the thick (almost as thick as honey) gula melaka sauce. I find the sauce addictive and that plus the ice makes this a dessert to be devoured.
Note: the stall officially opens at 12:30 but the queue tends to start earlier so you might want to go early (we arrived at about 12:20 and queued for about 10 minutes).
Found this tucked away in the back of ABC and knew I had to try it. The image isn’t really accurate because this Burger also comes with tomato and lettuce but I asked them to take it away because me and raw vegetables aren’t friends.
Anyway, this burger was huge. Like half my face huge. That’s probably because of the patty, which was very thick, very juicy, and very flavourful. It was topped with wonderful gooey cheese and sandwiches between two very light buns. It also comes with fries, but I don’t have much to say about that. The burger is definitely the main star.
I loved this and will probably be back to try more!
I could have sworn I saw a lot of oil being used to make it but this carrot cake didn’t taste oily at all! It’s homemade and mine was freshly prepared (from the dicing via a grate onwards). The end result was a tasty, piping hot carrot cake.
Initially, I thought that I made a mistake ordering a medium instead of a small ($2.50) but this was so good I finished everything.
Decided to try this after seeing it on Burpple! The bolo croissant is a pretty interesting concept, with the sweet crust covering the croissant. The bolo part is nice, but it does make the croissant feel a lot denser than normal. They have a bunch of flavours and the three I tried was:
1. Sea salt and dark chocolate: Decent, but I didn’t really taste the sea salt stuff. Good if you like chocolate though.
2. Salted egg: Tasted pretty much like liu sha bao and for some reason was the most unexceptional one for me.
3. Hazelnut praline: this is basically Nutella stuffed in a croissant and as a Nutella fan, this was my hands down favourite. Can we get a regular Nutella croissant on the menu?
These matcha azuki pancakes were very light, with the azuki complementing the pancakes. While I couldn’t really taste the matcha (although it’s definitely different from the plain version and thankfully not sweet, as matcha is), my friend loved the taste of this and preferred this to the strawberry and mixed berries pancake.
This is also available as an 8 layer pancake but I think four layers would be enough. For what it’s worth, my friend and I shared two four layer pancakes and we were full by the end of the meal.
To be honest, I ordered this as a four layer pancake not because I was particularly hungry, but because I thought four layers looked nicer than two. I didn’t expect to be able to finish this, but I realised I was wrong when I took my first bite - these pancakes are light and fluffy, which makes them extremely more-ish and whatever the opposite of jelat is. Taste-wise, it reminds me a bit of the Original Cake but nicer. I loved the cream that came with this, and of course, the berries.
If you need a drink, you can top up $3.50 to get their original Okinawan black tea. I found the tea to have some honey notes and was naturally sweet.
Between this and the matcha azuki, I preferred this because it’s very hard to beat a classic combination done well.
My colleague recommended this place and I am so glad that we came here! All the dim sum we ordered were delicious and I don’t think there were any that disappointed us. My favourites were:
- baked char siew sou: the crust for this was really good and went well with the char siew!
- Chee cheong fun with prawn: the prawn was succulent and the chee cheong fun wasn’t dry.
- xiao long bao: the skin was just right; not so thin that the bao breaks when you pick it up but not too thick. The soup and meat were delicious too.
- Liu sha bao: The filling here really flowed! It was what a liu sha bao should be.
I’m afraid I already forgot the name of this muffins but it’s pretty distinctive looking so you should have no problem finding it. The top is a cereal + chocolate combination that is crispy and goes very well with the dense, moist muffin below. The sweetness level was just right for me and at $1.80, something that I would happily buy again.
I grabbed the small banoffee pie ($4.90) because of the name - I love bananas and caramel and chocolate.
What I got was something that tasted like my chocolate and banana overnight oats. It was sweet, delicious, but also healthy tasting. I would get this if I wanted something sweet but felt bad about all the stuff I ate before, but this isn’t really a ‘treat food’.
