Affordable Peranakan Food Alert!

Peranakan Food have a reputation of being rather expensive. But not here at Charlie's

Located at Basement Floor of Golden Mile Hawker, Charlie's looks rather old school, with a hand written menu/signboard. The lady owner was very nice and friendly.

What we had

1) Bakwan Kepiting- damn good. Absolutely love this pork/crab meat balls.

2) Ayam Rendang- Chicken was fresh. The Rendang gravy was thick and flavourful.

3) Chap Chye- Normal dish, nothing really sepcial

They have many items on their menu, next time will try their Ayam Buah Keluak

Also available in $7/$8 portion as Well.

Heard many good reviews on Li Yuan Mee Pok, with its Japanese Fusion Bar Chor Mee. U can choose your noodle base, whether u want Miso or Shoyu.

I went Shoyu, and I had no regrets. Noodles were good, shoyu sauce base with pork lard, +minced pork+chilli, really damn shiok.

Char Siew was soft and tender, almost like the fats just melts in my mouth.

Have been a big fan of Soi Thai since they first opened at Tampines.

Their basil pork still damn good, got consistency. Unlike got Thai food places, where u got lots of big red chilli and onions and basil leaves, soi thai version here is filled with lots and lots of minced pork meat.

$9 is inclusive of GST. And with a drink somemore.

Medium @$30 !!!!!!

Price increased, machiam restaurant price already.

But why I still eat? Their sambal stingray still damn good la, no choice. Their sambal also damn spicy, flavourful & Shiok.

Still will come back, but not so often liao.

The soup was really good. Very flavourful.

Had the XO fish Pao Fan as didn't want to get my hands dirty with the crab pao fan.

Was not expecting fried fish to be honest. Fish was fresh, but fried fish just not palate. Quite a decent amount of fried fish inside this pot.

Soup is refillable.

Too filling for 2 pax, I would recommend this for 3 pax and above.

The Churros Waffles here are highly recommended, it was crispy and have a distinct Sweet Cinammon taste. Comes with 4 melted Marshmallows.

Roasted Pistachio - the best Pistachio Gelato u had for quite some time. Strong flavours, almost like I scoop this gelato out of a pistachio Nutella bottle. It was creamy as hell. Absolutely loved it

Butterscotch- it was good, but was totally overpowered by the roasted pistachio. Milky, buttery and not as sweet as the roasted Pistachio

Would like to add that their gelatos scoops are bigger than some of the other gelato shops I have been too.

Western Food Menu only avaliable after 1pm.

Sirloin Steak cooked to medium well. It was tender and good. Not bad for a shop that does not specialise in western food.

Sambal was very shiok, flavourful and not very spicy.

Comes with a large plate of crispy fries as well

First time I ate at Lek Kee was almost 15 years ago. And has been my go-to place for braised duck since.

The duck meat is tender and shiok, except the breast meat, that one not so tender.

Sauce was watery, but it tasted very good when the duck meat soaked up all its goodness.

Love their sambal chilli alot. Both the dry one and the one dipped in chilli sauce.

Their braised pork also quite good.

They close very early daily, by 2.30pm close shop liao.

The queue here is long and queuing time is expected to be about 20mins long.

Minimum order 2 pieces @$1.40.

This indeed is the top 3 best plain prata I ever had. No.1 for crispiness, like machiam eat biscuit.

Comes with sambal and fish curry.

But my preference is to eat with Sugar.

Enaq has always been in my top 3 pratas I ever had in Singapore. Whenever I pass by, it will always cross my mind to drop by for 2 plain pratas.

Seats here are limited, thank goodness there's a queue system here now, last time don't have, and it was hell of messy.

The Murtakbak portion was damn huge, it was crispy, and comes with chicken curry and sambal sauce.

Great for sharing if eating in a group of 4.
