Take my review with a pinch of salt, I’d pick tonkotsu over shoyu any day of the week but this shoyu ramen came highly recommended by a friend. When the waitress came around to serve my order, I was hit with the heady aroma of fish emanating from the broth way before the bowl was placed on the table. Because apparently the base ingredient is sardine, each spoonful of the broth was expectedly rich in flavor, though the saltiness became apparent after a few spoonfuls. Ingredient-wise, this is a quintessential bowl of ramen with a perfectly done ajitama (why half an egg only though?), bamboo shoots, 2 slices of charred char siew that melts in your mouth, and thicc al dente-ish ramen noodles. My only gripe was not being able to finish the broth because of how SALTY it was!
The first bite is pretty mind blowing; for a split second, your senses get bombarded with the light citrusy aroma & flavor of yuzu that somehow manages to precede the familiar, heavy umami of the shio broth. But once that fades, all you get is a bowl of REALLY. SALTY. ramen that lacks any distinctive flavor. The char siew - whilst grilled to a nice smoky char - still can be improved texture-wise as it was a little tough. Let’s not even talk about the very mediocre gyoza. Not worth the 20-30min wait imho, just go in a few months and pray that they’ll still be open by then.
For those of you who want the fame & glory from boasting about your “homemade” CNY goodies but get put-off by the amount of effort needed...this kit is literally the solution to all your problems. Each box comes with a recipe pineapple tarts and all required ingredients PRE-PACKED in the exact portions!! That’s right down to the last gram!!🤯
🍍
Unlike my friends who took a day off work just to bake these babies, I came home, took a nap, cut open the packets at 8.45pm and finished by...9.45pm. Prep: 45min, bake: 15min. Easy peasy lemon squeezy eh?😜 The best part is that you still get to inject a personal touch in the process when you mold each little tart into the shape of your desire😚🙌🏻 And when the hour’s up, and these little tots have cooled sufficiently, you get a product that is true to tradition - buttery, melt-in-your-mouth nibbles that envelop a sweet little ball of pineapple jam😍

🤤 Here're some of the other staples (available at all outlets) that I REALLY loved; the ✨beef bulgogi kimbap and ✨personal pot army stew! The former is essentially your maki-style rice roll, with seaweed wrapped around tender bulgogi slices that are surprisingly umami & well-seasoned!! And the latter is simply a must-get alongside the chicken - the spicy soupiness somehow manages to balance out the fried goodness while preempting your taste buds for the next bite of chicky!! What sorcery is this?!
🍗
Of course, the best way to end a meal is with DESSERT! The ✨soft serve here is - and I quote the bird outside my window - CHEEP CHEEP CHEAP!!!!! $1.80 for a refreshing tower of minty iciness perched atop a crisp charcoal cone? I'd take this over creamier any day. Let me just reiterate that it's a CHARCOAL cone (not just tinted black) with the full-on granular texture and charred flavour. Make sure to get your tongue on the limited mint flavour before the season ends!!🍃

Just last week I was bemoaning the lack of puffed tacos in Singapore and surprise, surprise, guess what I found? U got it, PUFFED TACOS! 😍 Unexpectedly, these can be found at the @redtailbarbyzouk pop-up; these miniature bites come with a crusty exterior that perfectly complements the moist, glazed shreds of beef within...guzzle them all down while they’re still hot & crispy!!🔥
🌮
If you’re a spice lover, head over to @senortacocq - you get to pick the topping sauces (inclusive of spicy sauce) that go atop their soft tortillas!! Travel east & taste the flavors of Cuba with @cubalibre.sg ’s Cuban sandwich - really a glammed up grilled cheese & cold cut sammich. Beware the bony bits within, I nearly cracked me poor tooth on the first giant chomp!!😂

And tho initally dizzied by the limitless array , I made up my mind to begin with my favourite dish:
✨@ramen_keisuke 's Lobster Broth Ramen!!😍 And ya - b4 you even ask - it DOES live up to expectations, even if it's just the "tasting" portion from a lil' pop-up stand!! The moment your tongue touches the broth, it's a full-on umami mouthgasm from the thick, silken and rich brininess👅💦 Almost like the essence of an entire lobster is encapsulated in each gulp. Oh, AND don't skimp out on the Ajitama with its oozy-goozy hellfire-orange yolk!!
🍜
No Singapore food fest is complete without a contemporary version of our national dish, i.e.: CHILI CRAB🦀 We're lucky enough to have TWO variations, and I must say,✨ @caskandbangers 's crispy Waffle Fries & Chili Crab Dip really stole my heart. Unfortunately for my tablemates, I picked 'n' dipped till my hand grasped thin air and i realized...oops, I'd eaten everything😂
🍜
Whazzat, you want more asian recommendations?? Well, idc if you're bursting from the mad ramen carbs, you gotta make space for ✨@swissotelmerchantcourt 's KB Pao w/ Pork Floss (as if there isn't already enough 🐷-goodness)!!! The meat is oh-so tender, it's like biting into a weightless cloud that melts into complex, intermingling flavours that linger on your tongue😍 Aiya, now i regret just getting one portion!!
💕Also if I haven’t mentioned, incredibly delighted to have gotten the chance to meet many other kindred spirits (who love food as much as I do😭💕) & to have caught up with old foodie friends!! Muacks y’all & to @clarkequaysg 😘

Yknow what sets this little cafe apart from the rest?? The fact that the dude who runs this place is always coming up with new creations!! In the spirit of Christmas, they’ve come up with this delightful apple tart that is totally unlike anything else I’ve tried. I’ll try my best to describe it; the top gelatinous-looking layer actually better resembles apple-flavored sorbet, with chunks of the real fruit hidden within! Below that lies a sponge, almond mousse and then a biscuit base. The whole amalgamation creates quite a novel and refreshing taste! If anything, the only gripe I have is that the components don’t really mesh well physically with each layer separating as my fork cuts through :-( But this truly is quite a unique dessert, and healthy to boot as there’s no added sugar since all the wetness comes from cold pressed apple juice!
Omo You’d never expect a fast food chain to churn out good soft serve but....THE MINT ONE HERE IS AMAZING!!! The icy yet slightly chewy texture is quite legit, plus overall it’s the right level of sweetness such that it doesn’t overwhelm. 2nd best part is the charcoal cone that isn’t just dyed black - upon biting, one can really feel the granularity and subtle charred-ness. Caramel is the complete opposite, cloyingly sweet in my opinion but my friends LUV IT!
I take back what I said previously about this place being a noisy wet market! Came on a weekday, around 5ish and there was absolutely no one. I got to enjoy my delish soft serve to soft indie background music😊💕 Taste-wise, I’ve never been a fan of their not-so flavorful waffles & the overly dense brownie chunks, but the soft serve is BOMB and it’s good enough to keep me coming back. Too bad they don’t serve it on a cone :-/
🌟3.7/5
🤤As a tribute to this stunning land with sights, sounds and smells that are too surreal to be true, here’s something uniquely Canadian: poutine(I.e.: loaded fries😍)!! At this humble eatery that has won multiple competitions and comes recommended by locals, you get a generous portion of crispy hand-cut fries doused in a thick peppery brown sauce interspersed with - what I personally love the most - locally sourced CHEESE CURDS!! If that doesn’t sound epic enough, you can add on MORE goodies (which is what we simply had to do) like sautéed mushrooms and caramelized onions, the latter of which added some sweetness to the whole dish. No doubt, I t’s the kind of comfort food you’ll dig into after a whole day of exploring in 10 degree weather!!😋

Tough meat, too much bone, gamey flavor...what’s there to love?? The ✨half goose at Yung Kee therefore SHOOK my world!!! Though admittedly, goose IS firmer than duck and definitely gamier, Yung Kee manages to strike a balance between all these characteristics, thereby playing up the essence of goose without overwhelming one’s senses. Their ✨signature char siew is equal parts astounding and stunning - the entire cut is doused in a thick, sticky-sweet glaze that highlights the savoury char of the meat!! In fact, I reckon the glaze itself is infused with the charred flavor?! Try it to believe it!!😍
