Was glad to stumble upon Real Food (@realfoodsg) at Orchard Central, and the Umami Mushroom Soup ($9.80) tastes real (duh), and absolutely wholesome. You can taste the chunks of white button mushroom in the soup, nutritious and full of goodness.

It comes with an abundance of seafood ingredients, including tamago, amaebi, salmon and kami, all lightly grilled and well flavoured. This is of course a new, hipster kind of Ramen, so this combination is pretty unusual. I am no Ramen expert, but the noodles tasted more like Korean Ramen then Japanese Ramen. Overall, it's an alternative combination but makes for an interesting meal. Give this a shot but don't expect something out of an Ippudo menu.

Following the footsteps of Nakhon, the dining experience is rather similar - non-airconditioned dining establishment with outdoor seating areas, non-pretentious Thai food and of course, friendly to the wallet.
.
The Pineapple Fried Rice ($6), a staple for any Thai meal was well above average. It was sweet, and salty, with ample toppings to go with it. I found the Basil Minced Beef ($8) a tad too salty for my liking though, and I will perhaps opt for the Basil Minced Chicken in future. Of course, no Thai meal is complete without Tom Yum Soup. We opted for the Red Tom Yum Soup with Prawns ($7) and the serving size was good enough for 3. The flavours were well balanced, and it was a nice dance between the two contrasting flavours of sour and spicy. Go for the Stuffed Chicken Wings too ($6), where they don't stinge on the filling and the wings are also plump and crispy.
.
The place gets crowded pretty quickly so I do recommend an early dinner, or be prepared to queue.

Finally, all of us Upper East Siders (=Tampines and Pasir Ris) can rejoice with the newly opened iSteaks (@isteaksdiner) at Tampines One. For $24, you can get a 250g NZ ribeye with two complimentary sides. The choices for the sides are aplenty, including mac & cheese, sautéed brussel sprouts, parmesan asparagus, creamed spinach, etc. The steak was nicely grilled, although my medium rare steak did tend to be borderline medium doneness.
.
They have also adopted the self-ordering system, where you scan a QR code and place your order and pay online. Many restaurants have adopted this system, saving on labour cost and time, but somehow after a while, I do feel that eating out at these places is no longer as exciting simply because there is no more interaction between the staff and customers. The platform interface for iSteak was also pretty confusing, so I was indeed a bit irritated at the start. They probably need to fine tune the ordering platform in time to come, but if you want a good, value for money steak anytime, head on to iSteaks.

Surprisingly, their Ali di Pollo Fritte ($19) was a winner. It's their rendition of the American buffalo wings, and the lemon juice was well balanced with the BBQ sauce and herbs - neither overpowered the other.
.
Their pizzas were made in house and I liked that they were made in a traditional wood fired oven. The crust was just nice, crispy with a slight chew. It was one of those rare times that two of us could really finish one whole pizza without feeling bloated. Our Pizza Carnivora ($26) also saw generous servings of the toppings, making it absolutely delightful. The Ravioli al Granchio e Aragosta ($26) was disappointing nevertheless. There was a strong fishy smell the the filling of crabmeat and lobster and it didn't really taste fresh
.
It's a humble Italian restaurant that does serve us traditional Italian food and I'll definitely be back again, but I'll be sure to give the ravioli a miss.
