The Nitamago Potato Salad is a sando with ramen eggs paired with homemade potato salad and truffle oil. The ramen egg yolks were runny and oozed out with a light squeeze, like an additional sauce for the potato salad. The potato salad was drizzled with the truffle oil, so the whole thing was extremely flavourful and melted in my mouth as I took a huge bite.

In front of Chef Sham’s stall is a humongous pot of soup that is hard to miss. The soup is cooking constantly, extracting the essence of the chicken, pig soup and fish maw all at once. It is evident that the soup has been carefully boiled for long hours by the milky colour of the soup.

Though they increased the price of Xiao Long Bao (10 Pieces) from $6 to $7, it is still one of the more affordable ones. While the skin of the Xiao Long Bao is not the thinnest one around, the saving grace is definitely its well marinated minced pork fillings. There is no “right” way to eat the Xiao Long Bao, but my favourite way would be to bite a small hole at the side of the dumpling, let the broth pour into the spoon, dip the dumpling in the vinegar sauce, eat the dumpling and lastly savour the broth.

Steeped in cold water, the coffee has a mellow acidity and lingering sweet aftertaste. The cold brew is bottled and perfect for take-n-go, but if you are dining in, a cup of ice is provided to pour the cold brew into.

It’s not often you see a Hawker coffee stall using an espresso machine to brew their coffee. Tucked in a little corner of Chinatown Complex, Lim’s Cafe does just that. On top of looking like a crossover between the traditional and the modern, the beans used at Lim’s Cafe are also a fusion of Western and Asian coffee beans.

This is the world’s first ever hawker stall to be awarded a Michelin star. Going at just $3 for a plate of Soya Sauce Chicken rice, it is no wonder that there were long queues and even a designated queueing area at its Chinatown Food Complex stall.

While there are 14 types of Banh Mi on the Menu, we had to go with Special Great Banh Mi (who can say no to a name like that?). At only $6.90, the Special Great Banh Mi was huge. The baguette could barely contain all of its stuffings

For us, it was a real hit as we enjoy dark sauce (the more the merrier!) although some might find it too sweet for their liking. Nonetheless, if you choose every spoonful carefully, you will see that there is plenty of pork lard to go around! The savoury fragrance of the lard helps to balance the sweetness of the Char Kway Teow.

It was love at first sight as we split open the sando. Although sandos are already a trendy cafe food these days (and we see them on social media all the time), this sando looked deliciously refreshing! Its crisp green lettuce juxtaposed with the spicy red chicken was a good combination of healthy and yummy.

Not only the decor, Heart Break Ice Cream made sure to incorporate some of that humour in their ice cream too. There was an ice cream flavour that particularly caught my attention - “Yong Wei’s girlfriend” (premium flavour). I thought it would be interesting to see how Yong Wei’s girlfriend tasted, but alas! The tub was empty because…Heart break Ice Cream co-founder Yong Wei, does not have a girlfriend…

Every bowl is made on the spot upon order, so rest assured that your maggie mee will come al dente, still crispy and chewy. We were first taken aback by the non-conventional ingredients in the bowl - fresh lime and tofu like an authentic bowl of Tom Yam! And indeed, the Tom Yam soup was not diluted but instead packed so much flavour in just a single sip. They are not playing around as they have taken BOTH the spiciness and sourness up a notch, so be warned to take it slow or it might go down the strong way.
