Seriously, I still am in disbelief that such a cafe exist in the midst of your usual unsuspecting block of hdb. Once you step inside you would feel the difference just a door apart from the "outside world". Love how clean the whole cafe looks. We ordered the charcoal waffles with salted egg yolk sauce topped with the Earl grey lavender and strawberry miso ice creams. Strawberry miso?? Whats that? Well it's the ingenious of combining both sweet and savoury flavors to tease your palettes. I personally love it. And it's like heaven is a place on earth when combined with the oh so rich I can taste salted egg yolk sauce(especially after a disappointing salted egg yolk dinner just minutes before). Together with the charcoal waffles? Brilliant just brilliant. The Earl grey lavender ice cream though...if you've ever had a spa experience before you would know what I mean by I felt like I was consuming the massage oil. Not in a bad way, just it was something too familiar to be consumed. Definitely heading back to try more ice cream flavors and the Yuan Yang waffles. I'm so envious of whoever lives near this area! 😉

Midweek spent with the cuz who lived in amk for a good amount of time but never ventured into Ave 10. It's about 6pm when we arrived, you can already see the kitchen busy and a queue forming. Waited for about 10mins before I got my order sent and the wait was about 30mins long? Pretty lucky considering some people waited for almost 2 hours for this. We ordered the best of both worlds combo which included the salted egg yolk and chilli crab sauce; came with chips(obviously) and a side of your choice for $12.90. The lemon butter grilled fish with tomyum fried rice was $8 if I'm not mistaken? Anyhoo, being a big fan of salted egg anything as I am, I'm quite disappointed by how lifeless the sauce looks and how little it was. Worse still, I couldn't really taste it; think more of zichar salted egg yolk sauce with sotong? And the chilli crab sauce had no kick. Don't really get the hype. But for a kopitiam, maybe there's an element of surprise? The tomyum fried rice was quite yummy. One thing though the fish was amazingly soft but it's a pity the batter is too oily for our liking. So we ate without it and without the sauce since it made no difference. I am only thankful we didn't wait too long for food of this standard. Don't think we'll head back for their fish and chicks? Maybe we'll try like their chicken dish if we're in the vicinity?

My friend brought me to my first bingsu experience and I must say it was quite a treat. We ordered the green tea and choco-banana snow flake priced at $13.90 each. Both of us preferred the latter because we are both matcha lovers and found the former lacking in flavor. The reason for this title has nothing to do with negativity. We were told that you would get full having a bingsu all by yourself and we were proven right. I mean how can a bowl of dessert make you feel like you've had a full course meal? Well a bingsu did, so it's best to share one amongst two person if you don't have a huge appetite. We ended up having this for dinner, if we shared one after a meal I totally wouldn't mind stuffing my face in it. Definitely heading back to try other flavours. Behold, don't get fooled by this seemingly harmless dessert, it's strangely addictive!

Went to Atrium at Orchard wanting to try Nana's green tea but they were upgrading so we settle for Hoshino instead. Reason for this title? I'm never heading back again at least not this outlet. The curry rice was sweet and tasted more like a dessert? Didn't like it not at all. The drinks and cabonara were okay. We also ordered a green tea souffle which was oh so(also) disappointing. The matcha flavor wasn't distinctive enough and the souffle was not light and fluffy. The dining experience was made more unpleasant when the waitress actually dumped the utensils holder on our table; rude much? My friend told me her previous experience at another outlet was so much better. Our bill came up to a total of $65.56 a price we could have gotten better food and service at another cafe.

When one is in Toa Payoh, one cannot miss out on paying a visit to this always crowded cafe even on a weekday. This small cafe is tucked at a corner of a residential estate. Even on a weekday night it is bustling with people but we didn't wait long to get a seat. Set my eyes straight on the Thai milk tea and Gula Melaka with sea salt to go with our waffles($11.60). The Thai milk tea tasted just like Thai milk tea? I mean I would rather I went for a vanilla flavor for the same reason yes? However both my girlfriend and I loved the Gula Melaka flavor, wasn't overly sweet or salty and it was mysteriously attractive. You just can't stop. Waffles were crispy and drizzled with chocolate and maple sauce on the side. Don't know why having such a modern dessert, staring at the nolstagic playground and talking about life seems to be so therapeutic here. Will definitely head back for their waffles and other flavored ice cream.

Wouldn't find myself anywhere near Braddell if it wasn't this. Must we really travel there for hokkien mee? Oh yes, it is means your dish is serve in claypot bubbling, piping hot and sizzling. We ordered a two person portion($10), you will find your usual prawns and sotongs(duhhh!) and also clams which I think totally brings the unami of this dish to a whole new level. The chilli was so addictive i found myself eating it alone but also totally complements the dish. One thing though, the crispy pork lard was too dry. Thats like probably the only fault I could find. If you like claypot dishes, you should try this. Like hokkien mee this stall is it. Like both? What are you waiting for? You need to try this!

Tiong bahru estate isn't just about the cafes that have been popping up in the recent years. There are a lot of local food that started wayyyy before the cafe scene. For example this bowl of comforting pig organ's soup($4) which had this hint of sweetness I didn't really like but also didn't mind. One thing's for sure they know how to cook the pig's liver properly, it's detestable when it's overcooked and becomes tough. The stall also has a specialty that we didn't order(glutinous rice stuffed intestine?) Which I will the next time we're there. Although father chua and I prefer a pig's organ soup that's more flavorful(salty and sour-ish) but we can't deny the fact that it's awesome having something less heavy on the palettes once in a while. If you're in the area, do pop by this store at the market and you will also find a lot of other local delights. You can end your meal with a slice of cake and ice beverage at the cafes nearby. 😉

I'm pretty sure this local snack is no stranger. Most of us had it when we were young, be it at pasarmalams, food fairs or at your neighborhood shopping centres. So why do we have to travel all the way to hdb hub for this? Because its way better than any that you had. At $2.50 you can choose either the peanut or sesame flavored. $3.50/$5.50 you can have both(黑白配] the latter is meant to be shared by 3 persons but if you're a huge muahchee fan go ahead and indulge. This humble local snack at this particular store is so chewy and fragrant and it doesn't stick to your teeth. Not as sweet as compared to others we have tried especially when my dad hates sweet stuff but he likes this! No need for fanciful packaging like the Japanese do, head on down if you're in the vicinity when we have our own mochi so good!
