Eat this at your own risk. Besides tasting exactly like Tom yam it leaves a strong spicy taste that can be really nasty at times. Feeling challenged I took a few big scoops of it and the aftertaste was a taste I could never forget. I felt defeated and never touched the ice cream again. I hope they served portions like maybe $1 for two small spoonfuls just for trying? ๐๐๐
Served on top of a layer sticky purple rice with coconut milk, this green curry flavored ice cream was quite an interesting dessert for me. True to its name, it tastes exactly like green curry. Not for the non spicy food lover, but I will surely order it again when I'm back there! ๐๐๐
Upon some research, I realized this duck rice stall at the Broadway coffeeshop beside the Jalan besar stadium was the one previously at Longhouse! No wonder it tasted that good! At $4, there were a plenty of duck meat, peanuts and braised eggs given! The chili was pre-mixed and had a sweet and spicy taste to it. Must eat it again before internship ends!!!
One of the best dish of the night. The salted egg sauce was smooth and creamy, and the chef was not stingy about quantity of the sauce! This was rather a different way of cooking, as they were not covered in flour then fried as per usual. To give a personal conclusion, the sauce was so good I had to take the cabbages from the other dishes to finish up the sauce when the sotong ran out. ๐๐๐
Eggs, long beans, sambal belachan, luncheon meat, chicken wing, Ikan Bilis and peanuts. This would have cost me a bomb at punggol nasi lemak but I can have them free flow at home. Shiok max! ๐๐๐
$1.50 goodness! #burpple
Found this in the hawker section of the people park complex. Pretty interesting dish, felt like kway chap with noodles, along with some cuttlefish and veggie. At $2.50, this was quite a cheap thrill for me! The soup had a sweet and beanish taste which I had never tasted before. Shall be back to try out their main dishes one day!
After binging for so many days, I decided to have some light hearted YTF for lunch. In order to have the best of both worlds, I ordered beehoon mixed with kway teow. Admittedly these had contrasting textures which felt that they were competing rather than complimenting one another. It's chili was surprisingly good for YTF standards, where it wasn't crazily oily. Although it costs $4.50 for 6 with noodles, the dumplings, fishcakes and meatballs were large in size which made this meal value for money!
Knowing that school is about to start soon, I decided to try every single hawker stall found in the Jalan Besar area. Right beside Cold Pantry was this Lam's prawn noodle (not to be confused with the other Lam), selling noodles that come with huge prawns. This style of prawn mee is the kind one gets at the old Longhouse; just prawns, chilli, bean sprouts and dark soy sauce. It is simple, having straightforward taste of sweet and spicy. At $4 for 4 relatively big prawns, I couldn't complain much except that maybe some fishcakes could add some variety to the taste. There are many prawn mee gems around the area, I guess I just prefer Jasmine prawn mee over this one! I very much prefer the hot and spicy taste rather than sweet and spicy!
Having tried many similar dishes, I have learnt to understand their subtle differences. Being curious, I enquired on how this dish was prepared as it had an awkward sweet taste to it. Upon explanation, it was make known to me that they applied had a secret sweet sauce when simmering those huge fresh prawns before finally including the vermicelli into the wok. Although the vermicelli was kind of in clumps, I still enjoyed its taste and texture which I found to be quite Q. They also used special garlic flown in from Thailand to make the dish even more authentic! (4/5) for me!
Thanks to fellow intern @kunhong, we got the best of both worlds. We ordered two different pastas and decided to share them 50-50. The truffle was just too amazing, despite eating mouthfuls again and again, it wasn't overwhelming. I secretly wished the mushrooms were of larger slices as each slice packed a great deal of flavor! The photo doesn't do justice to the pasta, it was creamy and the kind of creamy that I personally enjoy; a smooth taste yet not too oily. I am already looking forward to my next visit to this place to try out their other delicacies! ๐๐๐
Succulent and fresh tiger prawns of this dish nailed it. The juices from the prawn head were intensively good! The spaghetti can get a little salty after a while but all it took was the cranberry juice which helped to reset the taste! The furikake seaweed went well with the pasta, chorizo sausage was well sliced and not too thick! Must try for pasta lovers! $20 for the pasta, got it at $17.90 in a set meal with appetizer and a fruit juice!
