Bread/ Pastries
First time trying Janice Wong despite hearing about them all the time and enjoyed the refined cake. Not too sweet, balanced flavours, and not too expensive (prices were nett for dine in!). Did wish for some textural contrast such as crunchy pistachio as this was more consistent mousse like but enjoyed the simplicity
Newest addition to their bread line and at an affordable price of $3.20 each or $5.40 for 2. Flaky and airy croissant topped with earthy black sesame (could do with less sugar), and filled with a mochi block.
The ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฌ๐๐ง๐ญ ($9) was flaky and airy with a strong buttery finish. Would say itโs nothing great and comparable to the ones Iโve had in Melbourne/ France. Can get a bit surfeiting should I have finished the giant croissant by myself in one sitting.
๐๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ ๐ฉ๐ข๐ ๐ฆ๐จ๐ซ๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ง (4 โญ๏ธ; $9) - Delicious and refreshing, especially when compared to our other 2 choices. Luscious and light custard cream was paired with tangy apple compote and almond crumb, encased in a fluffy and airy bread with crisp edges.
Generously sized and filled, this value-for-money croissant is one for the almond lovers with its rich almond flavours. Heavier on the palette with loading of almond praline and topping of almond flakes. Liked that the croissant was crispy and flaky, with textural crunch from chopped nuts. It leaned more on the savory than sweet side, just how we liked it.
๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ก๐จ๐ ๐๐ซ๐๐๐ ($3.80) - Generously filled with red bean and mochi, we enjoyed the natural-tasting (not too sweet) flavour. Only feedback was that the bread was on the drier side.
๐๐ผ ๐๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ข๐ค๐จ ๐๐ก๐๐๐ฌ๐ ($3.20) - While the amount of fillings initially looked dismal, the rich seafood flavours shone through and was a good pair with the light and airy bread. Also enjoyed the balance of savory and creamy cheese for a deeper flavour profile.
๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ฆ๐ข๐ ๐๐ก๐ข๐ญ๐ ๐๐ก๐จ๐ ๐๐จ๐๐ ($5.50/half) - A sweeter and moist bread from the white chocolate with plentiful crunchy macadamia nuts within.
๐๐จ๐ญ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐๐ฎ๐ง ($5.80/4) - Flavourful bread with a good mix of spices and raisins. Would recommend heating it up in the oven > microwave for an airier, slightly chewy interior and crisp edges.
๐๐ผ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฌ๐๐ง๐ญ ($3.20) - Straightforward and well-executed croissant with an airy interior and crispy, flaky lamination.
This sweet dish playfully mimicked the ever classic ๐ฅ๐, albeit composed of layers of smooth avocado mousse, sourdough cremeux, and nutty pecan financier โtoastโ. It was delicious! Sweet and luscious, with savoury notes from the brown cheese and vegemite shavings. Our favourite new addition to their menu that we would recommend trying!
Canโt wait for the reopening of Le matin! This โbreakfastโ item will be available at 77 Robinsons
This generously loaded croissant was fiery with the fragrant sweet-savory-spicy sambal and crispy ikan billis. Encased in a crispy and flaky croissant, itโs a combination that was unique and would recommend trying!
๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐ค๐๐ฒ ๐๐๐ฆ ๐๐ฎ๐ข๐๐ก๐ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฌ๐๐ง๐ญ ($7.50) - Delicious cheese-ham combo with flaky buttery pastry that served as a perfect breakfast pick-me-up.
๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ข๐ ๐ง ๐๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ง ($4.50) - Classic multi-layered pastries that was crispy and airy. It had a caramelised exterior without being too sweet on the whole. Enjoyed it!
๐๐ข๐ง๐๐๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐-๐๐ฎ๐ณ๐ฎ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฌ๐๐ง๐ญ ๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ญ ($8) - Oozy cheese tart with a distinct hint of blue cheese that overpowered the pineapple and yuzu. A pretty polarizing flavour that was a hit among some (especially the cheese lovers) but confused others.

Special March edition with a crispy flaky croissant filled with cheesy chicken and tangy tomato
With continual release of innovative flavours, Brother Bird entices us to return for more seasonal line-ups. Their croissants remain flaky, crispy, and airy delights. If nitpicking, all the bakes are heavier-handed on the butter flavour, albeit not too cloying.
๐๐ก๐ข๐๐ค๐๐ง ๐ฅ๐๐ฌ๐๐ ๐ง๐ (4 โญ๏ธ) stood out for the cheesy chicken bolognese filling while ๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ข๐ค๐จ ๐ฉ๐ซ๐๐ฐ๐ง (3.5 โญ๏ธ) was a close second. The latter had juicy fresh prawns and savory mentaiko filling that was rich without being too creamy, albeit on the saltier side.
๐๐๐ซ๐ซ๐จ๐ญ ๐๐๐ค๐ ๐ญ๐ฐ๐ข๐๐-๐๐๐ค๐๐ (3.5 โญ๏ธ) was certainly unique but didnโt quite achieve the โcarrot cakeโ element with the light carrot cake frangipane (felt this could be richer) and topping of cream cheese.
๐๐ข๐ง๐ง๐๐ฆ๐จ๐ง ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฐ๐ง ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ซ ๐ค๐ง๐จ๐ญ (3.5 โญ๏ธ) impressed in being not too sweet (just how we like it!). Soft and chewy with distinct cinnamon flavour.
๐๐ซ๐ข๐ ๐ข๐ง๐๐ฅ (3.5 โญ๏ธ) was classic although a tad buttery for our palettes. ๐๐จ๐๐ก๐จ๐ซ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฌ๐๐ง๐ญ (3 โญ๏ธ) was generously loaded with creamy and sweet hazelnut filling (tasted similar to nutella). Would suit sweeter tooth but personally would have preferred darker and richer chocolate, and more generous loading of nuts.

The ๐๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ ๐๐จ๐ฅ๐๐จ๐ฏ๐๐ซ (3.5 โญ๏ธ; $4.90) was a light and crispy pastry wrapping homemade spiced apples. Loved the combination but wished there was more filling of sweet-sour chewy apples for better balance.

The Kouign-amann were evenly crisp and caramelized layers rich in the stated flavour. We preferred the earthy ๐ก๐จ๐ฎ๐ฃ๐ข๐๐ก๐ (4.5 โญ๏ธ; $4.80) over the ๐๐ก๐ข๐ณ๐ฎ๐จ๐ค๐ ๐๐๐ญ๐๐ก๐ (3.5 โญ๏ธ; $4.80). The latter while fragrant, was a tad too sweet for our palette.
