🍨Given that this dessert often tastes artificial especially the ones in SG, I'm proud to report that The Coconut Club has perfected this classic dessert. Here, the Cendol ($3.80) is creamy and milky, and they didn't stinge on adding gula melaka. Finely shaved ice is topped with freshly squeezed coconut milk, which was very fragrant, creamy, and surprisingly not cloying; the gula melaka gave such characteristic fragrance while not overpowering the coconut milk. The homemade pandan rice flour jelly is pale green and squishy in texture, when you mash them to the roof of your mouth, it sets off a natural pandan flavour. Overall, a very well-balanced and great dessert to end the meal! Still so awed by this great find and can't wait to go back for their other coconut dishes 😋 PS we were there at 3pm near closing and they offered us both bowls on the house. How sweet was that! Merry Christmas everyone ~~~ 🎄

Papito’s paella takes me back to the annual international fair of Lund where a queue would form for about 20 servings on a huge pan. The hawker would be mixing up the ingredients with the round rice, and the flavours of capsicum and herbs would waft slowly, filling the air with drool and anticipation.
.
Having earned the second place in the international paella competition in 2015, Papito’s serves up a mean and simple Spanish fare. The round and short paella rice soaks up the flavours of seafood stock, giving a burst of savoury and sour with the slice of lemon as garnish.
.
With generous chicken chunks, chorizo sausages, zucchini, capsicum, this takes the cut for simple Spanish fare, without a ticket to Europe. At $13.50, this dish is best enjoyed warm or when they are working up a new pan, the later serves can get a tad cold with the indoor air conditioning.

The red bean soup with lotus seeds tasted exactly like soup right out of mother's kitchen. The added tangerine peels bring a refreshing and zesty flavour. Green bean soup with sweet potatoes has a unique sweet taste that made this dessert very enjoyable to eat. Simple, traditional, homey desserts you can get below $2;)

阿娥云吞 dishes out tasty 鸡丝河粉, with the same traditional flavours as the 90s. Soft and springy kway teow is not easily broken unlike the food court variant these days, giving a slightly chewy texture and soaking up all the goodness in the sauce! Shredded chicken comes in generous amounts and drizzled with lard oil, a simple yet sinful trip down memory lane.
.
Ah Ngoh previously hawked in Geylang for 8 years and moved here for the past 10 - she can’t remember how many years she’s been selling it but she estimates it to be more than 20!

Definitely worth a try if you’re looking for an early breakfast in the area!

They have a good selection of Aussie craft beers. Puppet Master IPA has a strong citrus character from the hops and lime leaves, some bite to it with a sliver of sour to close. Le Brat Imperial Blonde Ale is refreshingly crisp, with a yeasty flavour, which has banana aromas, along with a hint of clove spiciness. And of course, we had to bring along a bag of Bacon Fries we got from Costcutters@Grandstand just the other day. They’re extra crunchy, not too salty, and has a nice smoky bacon flavour, so unique as compared to what we have here! These bags come quite small, always leaves us wanting another bite or two.

Nice ’n’ Spicy Nik Naks ($1.5) are made of corn and in puffy, knobbly sticks, their texture is a little more dense than Cheetos, with a full toothsome body and chew to them. The flavour was tbh very unexpected, and definitely unlike any flavour we have tasted on corn snacks. At first bite, they are sweet and sour, with plenty of acid and vinegar to boot. The depth grows even further with a bit of umami-saltiness in the form of soy sauce and garlic. To top it all off, flavorful notes of curry and onion linger in the distance. Despite the roller coaster of flavors going on, everything comes together very well at the end, and we surely fell into a deep addiction with these, bags after bags. This snack would be great for those mid-day perk me up. You gotta try it for yourself at Costcutters @ Grandstand and discover other great UK snacks without having to fly there :) _______________

Each regular bowl ($4) of 猪什汤 is protein-filled and contains innards, lean meat, meatballs, tofu, salted vegetable, pork belly, stomach and liver. What's great is you can have your soup refilled until you're fully satisfied, at no cost at all. This teochew-style soup is warm, clean-tasting and has a harmonious blend of sweetness from the meat, and saltiness from the salted vegetable. If you're hesitant about the smell from pig's organs, it's completely non-existent in this bowl. This place should definitely be on everyone's list of comfort food!

Slightly bouncy yet not too firm, the steamed rice cakes have a soft texture and are mushy to the bite. The cakes are covered in generous heaps of deliciously tasty chai poh made even more pang with sesame seeds, and the fried shrimp in chilli oil gives a glistening smooth texture to the cakes. Eat with moderation, this dish can get pretty oily!!

Yes you guessed it right, our fav childhood Paddlepop 🍭 in a friggin' TUB! The swirls resemble so much of unicorn colors, even before unicorns were in trend. Can't describe my excitement when I saw this tub on the ice cream shelf at Cold Storage. If I had to describe the flavour, it would be a creamy kind of vanilla-ey caramel butterscotch in the subtlest way possible, yet slightly milky and smooth at the same time. I would pay any amount for this kinda nostalgia, but it's retailing for such a reasonable price at $6 at NTUC and Cold Storage. Now go grab a tub and transport yourself down memory lane 🙇🏻♀️

The signature wanton mee had the addition of sambal chili for that extra kick. Be sure to toss the noodles evenly to soak up all the that sauce, a great mixture of sweet and savoury, and complemented the chilli really well.
.
This dish definitely contains a smoky essence upon the first whiff, one of the unique flavours here. We love this bowl as it was one of the few with a layer of gravy to allow the noodles to be filled with sufficient moisture, compared to those with really thin layer of sauce or the completely dry ones. The egg noodles were a pleasure to munch on without a lingering alkaline taste.
.
The ingredients were a hit too - char siew meat was well roasted and had a good amount of sweetness. The wanton dumplings were soft in texture and packed with a good amount of pork. Grab one and send it between your tongue and palate, press it lightly and feel the savoury softness melt immediately
.
Accompanying soup was a refreshing end to the meal, great to cleanse down the grease and spiciness.
