Today's noodles was springy but atad salty. The mode operandi here is take a number, wait for your number to be called. Once called, place your order and wait for noodles to be ready. Depends on luck, it might be a long wait.

Before I embarked, it was a good thing I googled. Could not stop feeling gleeful when my research showed that my actual destination was just diagonally across from this shop. Yay!!

My selection were lodeh (curry cabbage), ayam goreng (fried chicken) and sambal sotong. And of course a generous dollop of sambal belachan. The lodeh was alittle sweet. Sambal sotong, surprisingly, the sambal bears no hint of heat. It was more like a sweet and sour tone thereby it brought out the natural umaminess of the squid. Fried chicken was crispy with a turmeric finish. This was actually quite tasty but it could be better if it was more moist inside. I was hoping the sambal belachan would pack a certain amount of heat. It turned out to be tangy.

Well, because this place is called @dumpling.darlings . Only set lunch is offered, a noodle of your choice, any dumpling (6 to choose from) and a drink.

There were 5 of us ladies so we ordered differently in order to try all. The noodles were either braised pork, sichuan and mushrooms. Noodles were pretty tasty. But hey.. dumplings should be the signature. We had original, momo curry, spicy, fried pierogi (truffles inside) and smoked duck. My favorites were the original and smoked duck. Generally, it was atad too oily for me and after a couple of pieces, it became cloying. This is the kind of dish which requires plenty of ginger by the side.

The space here is quite small. Tables were small. Not much of an elbow space. Because we had 5 sets.. 5 big bowls, 5 smaller platesof dumplings and 5 drinks. It was a challenge eating without spilling. Positive note, service was good. Deep down, I knew the ladies were alittle uncomfortable with the tight space but still, the company was awesome.

After eating plates and plates of Penang wanton mee, I craved for my favorite one back home. So happy the shop is opened the entire day. The Penang version is with lots of black sauce which is on the sweet salty side. It is nice but can be alittle cloying. My tummy still goes to our local ones that have a more "wanton meeish" aftertone.

Penang food is quite tasty as most (especially street foods) are cooked over charcoal, the old fashioned way. But ours also has its own old school charm.

So went back again today, and the lady which left an impression on me was still around. Still as feisty, loud and she is like a walking calculator.

The dry version of kway teow mee comes with a black sauce gravy. Sweet and salty but no chilli sauce. The spice comes in a form of a homemade green chilli padi and garlic bits drenched in a tangy light soya sauce. Fishballs even though small were alittle dense. Very thinly sliced pork gave it a more meaty finish.

The taste is rather old school and decent. But I am pretty much used to our local bak chor mee. Still super impressed by the lady who swiftly and mentally calculates the bill out loud. She is truly a charm.

yes me! I flew to Penang. My first meal here. Lunch and dinner rolled into one.

Definitely hit the streets for local food. This street food hawkers were just 8 minutes walk from the hotel. We noticed there was a long queue at this stall. So follow the queue and the aroma and the smoke. It was an elderly uncle frying the char kway teow over charcoal fire. Witnessed the sparks spewing from the charcoal. Must be good right? Different from our local char kway teow which tends to be alittle sweeter. Here is spicier with slightly more wokhei. When I requested atad more black sauce (in hokkien), he actually added more chilli. Hmm.. ok. Duck eggs were used instead of chicken eggs. It tasted the same. The char kway teow was nice with a more robust heat and none of that sweetish mouthfeel.

This must be a very popular stall because the queue keeps getting longer. Luckily we went early. As after we had our fill, the rains came. There is no shelter by the way. Happy tummy as I head back to the hotel.

A simple meal with local flavors. We had hotplate tofu with a plain omelette beneath. Curry chicken with a wonderful orange glow #epitome of a good gravy. Quite a nice heat but unfortunately the chicken was a little tough. Dish of the day goes to the emperor chicken with cream sauce. Small spice, atad sweet and a gravy that tasted like salted egg yolk. It was good.

I was looking at the menu and realized that we were not given a bowl of soup each. Or was it self service?? Not so critical but nice to have. Anyways, it was fun lunching with the guys @shitty_vince @foodinsing . Good company with good convo.
