@ah_hoe_mee_pok opened an outlet at Tanjong Katong. My expectations were running very high. As I was starving, I ordered an $8 bowl, $6 being the smallest. The meepok was little, even for a not so big eater like me. It was tough in texture and some strands had a doughy aftertaste. Chilli was mild. I enjoyed the soup with sliced pork, minced pork, a fish dumpling and a prawn. The dipping chilli was salty, good heat and tangy. I also had a cold drink, just a normal glass of honey lemon which costs $2.60, very faint taste of lemon.

Perhaps still getting used to new surroundings. I find this not very friendly on my wallet. But if you are nearby, give it a try. Maybe and perhaps maybe, I should try the original outlet to make a comparison.

We ordered the set lunch, which comprised of noodle and the condiment of choice, a side and a drink. The century egg tofu and jellyfish were complimentary. The pork chop was definitely crispy. Fried wantons juicy and "crackling". Infact we liked all the sides. On this table of plenty, you get the sweet, salty and crunchy textures. The only component which could be slightly better was the noodles. It was atad dry and troublesome to chopstick.

The broth is chicken base. It is rich and alittle sweet. The mala has 3 levels of spice; small, medium and big spice. Swipe to see the mala version. I tasted a small amount of the medium mala, the heat is quite manageable. My preference is the original without the mala as it had a more bodied flavor. But if you need that punchy perk me up, go for the mala version.

There were many dishes that I wanted to eat. Yeah, seriously! I even asked if I could use my burpple beyond one for one. Forgoing the set lunch, I opted for this chicken roulade. Great choice!! Mushroom paste and bits were embraced by the chicken thigh. Moist and oh so juicy, the marinades and seasonings were so flavorsome. Much love for the veges and creamy mash. This is the beef bowl, using the cut of ribeye. Garnished with truffle mushrooms, onsen egg and truffle popcorn. The beef was well seasoned and was tasty. However, I preferred it to be more tender. Popcorn was a unique offering as it gives the dish abit of a crunch. Some do like the combination of sweet and savory in a bowl. But my palate yearns for only savory in just this beef bowl.

The chicken was tender with a silky soft gelatonous skin. Rice was fluffy but my tastebuds scream for abit more of that chickadee aromatics. Accompanied by a special dipping sauce, mix of fish sauce, chilli padi and secret ingredients. The seabass was steamed in a lemongrass, chilli padi, atad of fish sauce broth. This was my favorite. Chye poh omelette was fluffy but I preferred it with more chye poh. One of their signature is the braised pork. I find this alittle overpowering with the chinese spices. The pork rib bittergourd soup was good and with none of that bitterness.

Overall, an enjoyable meal. I cannot compare this with our local hainanese chicken rice because both have their own strengths.

Typically quite old school. Springy noodles. Small slices of sweet charsiew. However, the chilli sauce was abit of a pleasant surprise. Atad salty. The heat gave a somewhat tingling sensation mouthfeel. The wanton was tasty. The only negative was the skin was atad thick. Not saying it is the mindblowing best wanton noodle, but it is still better than some.

No doubt, the plain prata was crispy. The one with the egg was soft. An ordinary fish curry but it served its purpose of flavoring the prata.
