Pig trotter was so tender, it literally fell off the bone. Garnished with chestnuts. The gravy bears a salty aftertone which is the #epitome of this timeless dish. Quite old school. Sodium aside, it was good. Well worth a try.

This is steamed lobster over tang hoon or clear vermicelli. The sauce was the light soya sauce exactly the same one found on steamed fish. A reasonable sized whole lobster, quite fresh and sweet chunky flesh. But I would prefer it without the vermicelli.

Thai food, popular for their basil pork. This was actually good. Sweet and savory with a slightly firm bite of the minced pork. A subtle aftertaste of fish sauce that tantalised the salivatory glands. The heat packed a fiery punch on the palate, embodied the entire dish. No need for me to describe how a simple sunny side egg can taste so delectable. Don't you agree you can "make or break" a dish with just an egg? To do a beautiful egg, one need to have that "eggs-perience". Pun intended!!

Vermicelli from Sichuan was so different from the ones locally. Slightly thicker and a tender texture. Garnished with black fungus, mushrooms, quail eggs and chicken pieces. The chicken broth looked quite unassuming but it was atad umami balanced off by some sodium. Soaked some green cut chilies in it and a subtle hint of heat elevated the broth to another aromatic level. It kind of reminded me of salted vegetable broth but it was lighter, softer and had a more refined taste. Very comforting. I would come back for this.

The last time I had this, it did not taste as good. But I enjoyed today's char kway teow. I noticed elderly uncle vigorously moving his spatula in swift movements and sort of catching the breath of the wok. Quite well fried with that subtle hint of wokhei.

I tried this many times. Sometimes not as good. Sometimes good. I learned, in my foodie way, to be less judgmental. Everyone have their good and bad days and we should give alittle, take alittle. Afterall, it is the source of income that feeds their loved ones. So before I tuck into my food, I give thanks to those who tirelessly "put food on my table".

@gastrosmiths take on the popular white beehoon. It is not really white. Huge huge clams that were sweet and juicy. Bits of chicken pieces buried beneath. The broth looks atad cloudy but it had an aromatic umaminess and packed with wokhei or breath of the wok. Taste of seafood that was infused in it. Subtle hint of heat. This is great for rainy and cool days.

@gastrosmiths is a little hidden in a furniture shop up on the 4th floor of I12. Easy to miss if one's sole focus is on furniture. It is a somewhat hidden gem. But some of the dishes are really good and worth to try.

Back to old favorites. A bowl of mee pok dry, fishcakes, fishballs and meatballs. Handmade. Irregular shaped balls with a soft bouncy texture. Soup was alittle sweet. Chilli for the meepok did not have a punchy spicy kick. I enjoyed the meatballs and the fishcakes more.

This salted egg yolk pork ribs rice has been a hit with many people, especially those who work nearby. Deep fried pork ribs (no bone) with crisp curry leaves and drenched in salted egg yolk sauce. Yes... they are quite generous with the sauce. Best paired with just plain rice. It is alittle addictive. But too much of the sauce might just leave the palate screaming for water. My advice is perhaps order the pork ribs separately from the rice. In this way, one would not be overwhelmed by the richness.

My last visit to eat the fried chicken cutlet curry noodle. Cutlet was crispy enough to soak up that not so spicy curry gravy. The gravy was not the typical thick kind. Lighter in body but with a umami liquidy finish. As far as my palate can remember, the standard is still the same, if not better. No wonder queue is always forming.
