The unanimous favourite at the table came in the form of their Iberico Pork Chop Ssam ($30). The small plate was it for me (though I wish it wasn’t that small). Succulent and flavourful, the seasoned thick sliced pork was well-executed and perfectly textured (not too fatty or lean). Love love love the charred edges. On the side were an assortment of lettuces and Shiso Perilla Leaves as well as Thai Chili Dipping Sauce, Nam Jim Jaew.
Glazed in gai yang (a traditional Thai marinade), the beautifully roasted Poussin Chicken ($58/ 400g) was tender and juicy. The barbecue marinade on the bird was sweet-savoury and aromatic too. If you are missing that kick, the accompanying dollop of green chilli relish certainly delivered. Nice but nothing life-changing.
And as a fellow rice-lover, I had to get their wood-fired rice. The Pepper Crab ($40) rice pot was yummy with snow & swimmer crab, kampot pepper sauce and briny vibrant pops of ikura.
Bummed that their lunch set is no more; I just had Tribal Dining last Saturday and they now feature the classic ala carte menu with some refreshed offerings.
To start, you can’t go wrong with their Tribal Flatbread ($12) with abura miso and smoked honey. Pillowy soft, the freshly baked bread was lovely with the light smokey flavour from the burned blistered spots but wah the whipped Abura Miso Butter really stole the show for me. The savoury spread was simply so umami, the Smoked Honey butter I didn’t enjoy as much as it was a tad too sweet which made it kinda cloying.
