Lobster stew rice (barley, sorghum and black rice). Half grilled lobster with a firm umami flesh. An explosion of rich addictive flavors from the creamy butter sauce, the subtle heat of the chilli padis and the crunchy textures of the sorghum. The nuttyness and woodyness of the oyster mushroom just about brought a gasp from my palate. This was exceptionally good.

Nasi ambeng. Bearing a fiery appearance, we thought it will taste just as fiery. Some were sweet and some with a tiny hint of spicyness. I am a tad disappointed as I would prefer at least two out of the eight dishes to deliver a fiery kick and a balance of spicy and sweet.

Perhaps the mildness of chilli is catered to those who do not like it hot. It was satisfying but yet not satisfied.

The breath of the wok is #epitome of a yummy horfun. The way the kway teow with a tinge of charredness, clumped together is testament of it being wok fried. The one word I uttered after my first slurp... "wooo". No reason to say more.

@faai.di is a new concept by Ka Soh. Other offerings include the prawn noodle soup with a broth that was sweet and atad creamy. A must try is the steamed lup cheong chicken.

The char kway teow today was alittle more tangy than sweet and alot more spicier than usual. Star on the plate were the crunchy beansprouts. It was a quick fry and no wokhei present.

Eating this wanton noodle felt like being transported to my late granny's era. Old school taste which is hard to find. The carrot cake was another surprise. No pork or lard. Strictly vegetable oil being used. I was inquisitive so I chatted with the young expecting tau kay neo (lady boss). This is actually vegetarian. Not oily. No cloying mouthfeel. It is not "wow" but quite decent. Can eat guilt free!

Torn between char kway teow or curry chicken cutlet noodle. The one with the shortest queue won!

I have eaten this about 4 times in the span of roughly two years. Taste of the curry is almost the same as before. Chicken was crispy but atad salty than usual. ▫️▪️
Though it was good, perhaps a reduction in monosodium glutamate was what I prefer because I was feeling very thirsty afterwards.

So I traipsed to, where else, the chinatown area. Two places with decades of history. So now the question is : Chew Kee or Chiew Kee?

Springy noodles. Tender, moist and juicy chicken with soft silky skin. I normally do not eat skin but it was an exception today. Because skin was so slippery and gelatonous, it just screams out collagen!! Oh gosh! I walloped all the skin, the flesh and sucking the jus from the bones. It is a tinge salty plus atad sweet with a hint of the various chinese spices. And no, I did not finish the generous amount of soya sauce on the plate.

Very old school. And I just love chill-laxing in an old shophouse. There is also that certain charm when the lao pan nian speaks to you in cantonese. So last century vibes. So was it Chew Kee or Chiew Kee?

Grilled chicken thigh stuffed with uni rice and topped with salmon roe and more bigger pieces of uni. Skin on thigh was beautifully grilled till crisp. The ikura bursting with saltyness. The creamy umami uni melts in your mouth, leaving one gasped in #foodgasm . Eat this and really be at a loss for words. So lipsmacking, literally!

It was sizzling but the sizzle stopped sizzling after I carried it to the table. The spaghetti was how I liked it. Spot on aldente. Tomato sauce, a tad thick in consistency with a hint of acidity. I, however, prefer a stronger tomato-ish satisfying kick.

It was enjoyable eating the spaghetti out from the hot pan as the residual heat kept it steamy. Will be back to try the other dishes.
