While Basil King has been actively expanding its footprint after the establishment of their very first outlet in Singapore, it does seem that there is yet another establishment that is entering the same space as them within the F&B scene here. Located within the Kopi Breweries coffeeshop at Blk 61 of Shun Li Industrial Park, one would be able to find A Chai Thai Food — Basil Queen 07 occupying a stall unit that is situated in the middle of the row of stalls within the coffeeshop. Just like Basil King, A Chai Thai Food — Basil Queen 07 centres its menu around its Thai-style stir-fried basil dishes; all of which featuring meat / seafood, with patrons having the choice to opt for Single, Double, Triple or Quadruple Egg options which is itself inspired by that of Phed Mark in Bangkok, Thailand. Apart from such offerings, A Chai Thai Food — Basil Queen 07 also serves up scrambled egg rice and also ala-carte Moo Ping as well.
We went for the Double Egg rendition for the Basil Pork which comes with a sunny side up featuring two (2) egg yolks — much to the like of how the same dish is being presented at Basil King or even at Phed Mark in Thailand. The Basil Pork Double Egg does feature all of the usual suspects that one would find in a Thai-style stir-fried basil minced pork — think French beans, chili padi, basil, minced pork; all that served with white rice on the side; patrons can opt for their desired level spiciness out of five levels which we went for Level 2 (Normal Spicy). Felt that the Basil Pork was executed in a way that we liked it — the version here does come a little saucier where one will be able to have a little bit of sauce to go with the rice. The minced pork here does come with a mix of fattier and lean parts that provides a bit of bite though was also easy to chew through; all that whilst having absorbed the savoury notes of the sauce and came without any undesirable porky stench. The notes of basil does come through to flavour up the dish, while we found Level 2 to be adequately spicy for those whom are tolerable to moderate levels of spiciness; the addition of French beans also gave the dish and element of crunch amidst the minced pork. The fried egg does feature molten egg yolks that are runny, though the base of the egg white does come a little thick and stiff — perhaps intentionally done so to achieve some ease in picking it up whilst plating the dish.

[KAKI BUKIT, SINGAPORE] A cafe in the East that serves up pretty decent cafe food with huge portions! @cafebarcosg sells quite a variety of cafe food options and we tried a couple of them.
For the mains, my choice item would probably be their Chicken Katsu Burger 🍔 ($17.80). This came in a humongous portion, with a huge slab of fried chicken cutlet and quite a sizeable portion of fries. The katsu itself was juicy, bun was well buttered, and the fries were decent. Other main options like the Mentaiko Egg Mayo Sando 🥪 ($8.80) were good as well, as it was jam packed with eggs in mentaiko sauce.
If you feel like you want something lighter, their Ham & Cheese Croissant 🥐 is quite decent as well, as it was aromatic with its buttery flavour! For desserts, their tarts ($8) can't go wrong, though we didn't like their Madelaine nor their Canele as they were too tough.
For drinks wise, Orange Americano & Strawberry Matcha Latte are good choices, as the former is refreshing, while the latter is really rich with matcha flavour. Love that it isn't grainy!
This is a cafe you can consider in the east! Thank you @eatwithkeat for inviting and @cafebarcosg for the food!
A stall by Malaysians for Malaysians. I enjoyed this. Tbh the gravy was similar to local laksa, not really curry. But interesting ingredients, including fried wantons.
A stall by Malaysians for Malaysians. This dish normally is full of pig parts, but I don't take innards. The horfun is aka kway teow lah. Very smooth. Good pork cuts and okay soup.
Went to Cafe Barco last week and ordered their Miso Salmon Don, Chicken Katsu Burger, Tater Tots, an Iced White, and a Matcha Latte (~$58/2 pax)😇 Overall ratings 8/10! Food is decent but Chicken Katsu is underseasoned and Iced White had a hint of sourness😅 Matcha Latte was to my liking tho! Recommend the Tater Tots and Matcha Latte, would head back for those😁
Have managed to learn about the opening of the new Cafe Barco by Wunderfolks fairly recent whilst scrolling through social media. Wunderfolks might be a brand that may be familiar to some; these folks pretty much started out as a home-based business serving up dessert tarts in 2020 — the brand had subsequently became a brick-and-mortar business with their first but now-defunct space along Joo Chiat Road. While the brand had been well-known for being one that runs retail kiosks that primarily caters to takeaway operations, the opening of their Tampines Mall outlet saw the addition of dine-in seatings a while — marks the very first time that one can enjoy the variety of dessert tarts which Wunderfolks has to offer on the spot. Cafe Barco by Wunderfolks can be described as an extension of the Wunderfolks brand; situated at Techview that is located just outside of Exit A of Kaki Bukit MRT Station along the Downtown Line, Cafe Barco takes over the former premises of the now-defunct Nasty Cookie Cafe which is also right beside the Six1Two food court located in the same building. It does seem that quite a fair bit of work has been done to the space from its time being the Nasty Cookie Cafe; the space now sports a chic yet vibrant contrast of grey and blue alongside wooden accents used for its furnishings — the blue being of the same shade that Wunderfolks had pretty much adopted as a theme for their branding. The dining tables are spread white far apart from one another; provides privacy in between different groups of patrons. Fun touches like the bear mascot for Wunderfolks can also be found in one of the corners of the cafe. Being an extension of Wunderfolks, Cafe Barco by Wunderfolks offers a hot food menu that is split into categories such as All Day Breakfast, Sandos, Burgers, Donburis, Pastas and Sides — this would be aside from the various tarts, danishes and other bakes that are stocked in the display cabinet at the counter. Beverages available at Cafe Barco by Wunderfolks include espresso-based specialty coffee (only till 6pm), matcha latte, drinking chocolate, tea sourced from Gryphon Tea Company and a small variety of canned beverages.
Looking for something on the lighter side, we found ourselves gravitating towards the Sandos section of the menu — the Mentaiko Egg Mayo Sando is in fact the lowest-priced main dish on the hot food menu being priced at $8.80. The menu at Cafe Barco by Wunderfolks describes their Mentaiko Egg Mayo Sando to come with elements such as toasted bread, mentaiko egg mayo, and Tobiko. Coming as-is, the plate for the Mentaiko Egg Mayo Sando does seem a little sparse and definitely does feel like something that would cater more towards smaller appetites; we did feel that the dish could have come with some greens that would help to provide some sort of balance whilst filling up the plate a little more at the same time. Taking a bite into the Mentaiko Egg Mayo Sando, the toasted bread itself does come within what would expect a Japanese-inspired Sando to be like — lightly crisp on the outside, but retaining the soft and fluffy interior; the bread does seem fairly much like a brioche. Despite the description given in the menu itself, we felt that the mentaiko egg mayo just did not feel “mentaiko” enough in a way that the egg mayo simply lacked the umami-ness that one would associate with such an item. Instead, this felt more like a regular egg mayo sandwich that came with Tobiko over the top; the Tobiko adding that popping sensation and that slight umami factor that makes the item inch towards being a mentaiko-infused dish just by a teensy bit. In its own right though, the egg mayo that came with the Mentaiko Egg Mayo Sando does come with a consistent texture; one that is creamy with bits of small, diced hard-boiled egg that gives a soft and bouncy texture — the Tobiko providing a good textural contrast to all of that.
Wunderfolks is a brand known for their tart offerings — these folks also do retailed a line-up of danishes such as the Ham & Cheese Croissants that were being stocked in their display cabinet at the counter during our visit to Cafe Barco by Wunderfolks that is made on a weekday evening. That being said, there are items that do seem to be newly-introduced at Cafe Barco by Wunderfolks; this would include their line-up of Madelines and Financiers. We opted for the Uji Matcha Madeline and this feels rather decent; the texture was slightly on the drier side of things, though it was also noted to be not as greasy as some commercially-made ones that we had come across thus far. Whilst being infused with matcha, the notes of matcha does seem to have come from the dusting of matcha powder over the Madeline itself; this does make the Madeline carry that hint of bitterness that one would well associate with the tea, though we did feel that it was a tad extreme for our preferences since it felt a little off-balance. It retrospect, the Maple Pecan Financier was suitably sweet and buttery with an evident hint of vanilla; came even with an additional contrast of saltishness above the nuttiness from the nuts embedded in the Financier itself. While the exterior was a little crusty in around the edges, the dryness of the Financier it did make it felt a little clumpy. They also do stock a variety of Caneles in their display chiller at the counter — considering the variety of the flavours for the Canele that they were serving up, they do seem rather reminiscent to that which are being offered at Flourcrafts Patisserie (and even aesthetically similar as well); a takeaway-only establishment that specialises in Caneles and tarts that is situated at EON Shenton along Shenton Way.
We opted for their TWG French Earl Grey Canele; we liked how the Canele carried a crusty, caramalised exterior that came with a crunch; the interior bearing an almost honeycomb-like texture that is similar to Bingka Ambon and carrying a suitably sweet note. The Canele does come with a core of Earl Grey-infused cream — the cream being dense and of a similar consistency with the Canele itself in terms of texture (not sure if this is due to the Canele being stored in the fridge, and does require some time to defrost; the TWG French Earl Grey Canele was the last item to be had at the table by us), but it does carry the familiar aroma of Earl Grey Tea with a slight floral note of lavender while at it. Cafe Barco by Wunderfolks is probably Wunderfolks’ take on being an full-service cafe — one that not only focuses on their expertise on their dessert tarts that goes way back into their initial days of founding, but also one that seemingly carries a Japanese-Western fusion element — think items such as the Mentaiko Pasta with Salmon and the Chicken Katsu Burger. Most items do however seem to lean towards only one side of the spectrum; perhaps an attempt to keep things on the safer side and to cater to less adventurous tastebuds in general — we did feel that the offerings we tried does need some slight tweaks to bring it to the fullest potential. That being said, Cafe Barco definitely adds an interesting dining option to the Kaki Bukit neighbourhood — one that is also notable for the sweet treats that it has to offer. Prices of the individually-sized mains range from $8.80 to $24.80 — the most expensive being the Angus Beef Burger; a spot would likely attract those whom love the Wunderfolks brand, while also being one that residents in the ‘hood will enjoy having at their convenience.

Yet another one of those cafes that we had not visited during its opening phase would be home — home is a cafe that had opened its doors in 2021, being located a short distance away from Kaki Bukit MRT Station along the Downtown Line at Blk 150 Bedok Reservoir Road; the location of where the cafe is being situated at can be said to be a rather peculiar one considering how the area is not one that is particularly notable in the local cafe scene. Nonetheless, it does seem that home had really found home in the location for how it has been serving the community around it for around two years since. With a name like this, home does attempt to make themselves a homely hideout for those whom visit their premises – a little bit of a “home away from home” for some. The cafe attempts to maintain simplicity in its decor by using an mix of white and wooden elements throughout the entire space; the dine-in seating being cushioned with two seats being sofa seats to give it that sort of “living room” vibe that can also be described as cozy and warm. Occupying a well-sized shop unit, home is that sort of neighbourhood-ly cafe that not only serves up desserts such as cakes and ice-cream, but also does serve up a decent variety of hot food for those looking for a light bite or a well-sized meal alike. The hot food menu comprises of options such as pasta and baked rice, though those looking for something to share can opt for the drumlets; for patrons wanting something light, home does offer croissant sandwiches, pies and quiches as well. Otherwise, home is probably better known for their different flavours of basque cheesecake that they have to offer — all being prominently displayed in the display chiller right beside the counter. For beverages, home offers a variety of espresso-based specialty coffee and bottled cold brews that are brewed using beans roasted by Dutch Colony Coffee Co., as well as a variety of teas, drinking chocolate and even a Black Sugar Milk as well.
We were visiting home on an early weekend afternoon looking for something sweet since we already had lunch at a separate location beforehand; in fact, the item that had made us really intrigued to head down to home was their variety of basque cheesecake which we have been seeing for quite a while on social media. Skimming through the selection of the various basque cheesecakes which they have in stock in the display chiller beside the counter, the Earl Grey Basque Cheesecake stood out to us the most — perhaps due to our love for most things Earl Grey Lavender. Coming with hard plastic cover that also avoids the cake from touching the wooden plate that it gets served on, the Earl Grey Basque Cheesecake comes with a layer of Earl Grey-infused buttercream of the cheesecake — this is a consistent theme with all of the various flavours of basque cheesecakes which are being served here. Digging into the Earl Grey Basque Cheesecake itself, one would go through the alluring notes of Earl Grey and that light floral note of lavender perfuming through the buttercream layer, giving the Earl Grey Basque Cheesecake that flavour that is being suggested in its namesake. As one goes all the way down to the basque cheesecake itself, we did feel that the texture of the cake here leant closer towards a New York-style cheesecake; a little dense, with it being a slight crumbly. That being said, the savoury note of the cheesecake is paired with an infusion of Earl Grey into the cheesecake layer itself as well; enhancing the aroma of the tea in the cake even further. In retrospect, the Spanish Latte turned out to be just ok — the sweetness from the addition of condensed milk wasn’t quite as profound as what we expected. With the main courses being priced from $11.90 to $14.90, the prices do seem rather reasonable on first impression; wouldn’t be able to comment on the quality of the main courses against the buck since we did not have any of their hot food. Still, a cosy hideout that residents around the area do seem pretty glad to have.
Found this vegetarian restaurant as I was searching for it around the area, and turned up to be a very pleasant meal here.
It is air-conditioned and hide under one of the office building in this industrial area. Which you could easily miss out as the shop view is covered by the trees along the main road.
What I understand is that they has been operating for many years, before moving to this current location.
Serving meatless western, asian and indian cuisine here. The set meals are the best option to grab that comes with complimentary drink.
South Indian Set is one of it that comes with plain rice, sambar, rasam, buttermilk, 2 veg, vadai, dessert, papadam and pickles. They all taste excellent in different flavours and very appetising.
Definitely a good place for those vegetarian who works around here, as you can many meatless options on their menu.
Hidden in a quiet neighbourhood lies home cafe, which boasts a very simple yet aesthetic look. With comfortable seats and plugs around, I really can see myself working here!
We had a scoop of cranberry yakult ice cream ($5.50) which seemed more like yoghurt instead. With sour punches coming from both the yoghurt and cranberry, it's really refreshing!
We also had the yuzu osmanthus cake ($6) and this really was a winner. Soft moist cake texture, aromatic osmanthus flavours with a tinge of tangy yuzu, the flavour of the cake is very balanced. I can have this all by myself!
