($6.50 on website) ($5.50 on store) as I wanted to try their second flavour for matcha for a long time but no chance to buy so when they are at everton park that time. So I just decided to go there even though that day was raining and gotta self collection from there. I did reheat after putting fridge for 1 to 2 day after self collection. Got strong black sesame taste but then they kinda fight each other for taste. I felt that matcha overlooked by black sesame tbh.

I personally don't support this outlet of the brand, but this was a treat so I won't grumble lol.
This Japanese restaurant could easily missed out as their location wasn’t so obvious here, which located at the back of Everton Park. You need to navigate around the blocks in order to get here.
But it doesn’t stop people from coming to grab their meals here. Spacious restaurants with plenty of seats.
Went for their katsu don with the choice of pork cutlet and egg on the rice. Otherwise, you may opt for chicken cutlet also.
Drawn to their whole cakes, we had to get a tall slice of their Vanilla Strawberry Hojicha ($9.50/ slice); especially with the vibrant fresh strawberry topping. Layered with madagascan vanilla sponge, fresh strawberry filling, and hojicha buttercream, the cake looked kinda dry and dense at first but was surprisingly moist on the first bite. The taste of the hojicha buttercream lacked a little oomph in my opinion. However, it did have a lightly roasted tea flavour and was overall complementary to the strawberry filling (fresh strawberry was yum). It wasn’t too sweet overall, and great with tea.
A little embarrassed that it is my first time at The Better Half and after this visit, it definitely won’t be my last.
My favourite and something I would definitely return for is the Chocolate Banana Lime ($7.50) cake. Simply sublime, the chocolate sponge, fresh banana filling, and lime buttercream combo was a winner. Recommended by the staff when we were deciding on getting another cake, the rich chocolate-y cake was light, kinda moist but not airy so it has that tinge of decadence without being dense or cloying. Love love love the layer of fresh, pleasantly sweet banana hidden under the cream. And the best part was the smooth lime buttercream - fragrant, creamy, and providing that subtle zing to cut through the richness and tie everything together.
This was a bit disappointing thou. The pork was very soft and powdery. A bit weird for my liking. But it was crispy on the outside.
Tasted quite good. A must order as a sides.
- Beef was braised till soft with no tendons or fatty parts which I appreciated.
- Enjoyed the brioche which soaked up the flavourful sauce, yet maintaining its integrity and surprisingly not soggy!
- Sunny up was well-cooked with a slightly creamy yolk and tender whites 🍳 [8/10]
- Honey glazed and black forest ham could be more moist with more cheese as some bites were quite dry with the brioche 🍞
- Onion jam gave a burst of sweet savouriness.
- Hashbrown was a bit over-fried and crunchy hard at the edges, would prefer it thicker. [7/10]
- Rich nuttiness with a savoury earthiness although could be a bit dry, quite pricey and would prefer a little more sweetness to enhance its natural fragrance. [7.5/10]
