The shop offers a huge range of Zichar variety, and I heard it opens till late night so perfect supper spot in the east. Food was good and the porridge was refillable so definitely a plus point
Had amazing taiwaese porridge with super tasty side dishes! The service was superb and made our visit a very pleasant one
Just look at the sear on this pork chop! And the sheer amount in this economy. While the pork chop isn’t thick, I believe it’s what keeps the meat tender, juicy, and flavourful. Really good stuff and worth a try if you’re looking for traditional western food.

My new obsession is old school western food and Jet Winds really hits the spot. While 511 is a smaller sized hawker, they have a bunch of solid food stalls there. From Seng Kee Herbal soup to Aliff Nasi Lemak and of course to the (maybe??? better than 85) minced meat noodles, most of the stalls there have pretty much a cult following. Jet Winds is no stranger, especially with its long queues during peak dinner hour. But the queue moves pretty fast, so that extremely juicy chicken thigh (not fatty at all) that’s seared perfectly and complemented with that piping hot rice drizzled in sauce will be in your tummy in no time.

Had such a satisfying dinner here. Service was wonderful - our waiter was extremely kind and attentive - and the food was fantastic! I highly recommend the triple cup chicken and fried prawn rolls. Both dishes were savoury and went along so well with the restaurant’s chilli sauce.
Love the dessert, but not the salad
Had a bite at @nipponbite Crispy Chicken Katsu Onigiri, which intrigued me with its peanut butter sauce, the only item on the menu featuring this option. It was an interesting combination of ingredients. The onigiri is neatly wrapped with pearl rice, chicken luncheon meat, fluffy tamagoyaki, crispy chicken katsu, and peanut butter sauce, all within a large piece of seaweed.
The chicken katsu was thicc, juicc, and crispy, with a clean-tasting greasiness. The egg had a fluffy texture but was plain in flavour, adding some sweetness or savouriness would have improved it. The chicken luncheon meat was sharply savoury, but the thin cut felt lacking. A thicker slice would have made the bite more tastisfying. The peanut butter sauce was overflowing, just look at the amount of it. The nutty sauce leaned toward smooth and creamy rather than chunky.
Eating it all together, I expected the chicken luncheon meat to overpower the other ingredients, as it is usually quite salty. However, the tender chicken katsu and strong nutty peanut butter took center stage, overshadowing the egg and luncheon meat. Nonetheless, it was pretty yummy, though I made a mess eating it.
Set consists of onigiri, one side, and one drink. I used GrabPay for 15% off, bringing the total to $9.26.
When talking about onigiri, most would think of the typical triangular rice ball wrapped in seaweed, commonly seen in mainland Japan. That is not wrong, but in Okinawa, onigiri is sandwich-style. Influenced by Western elements while staying true to its Asian roots, it is wrapped in large seaweed encasing rice, SPAM luncheon meat, and tamago.

For the side, I had the choice of fries or croquette and went with the latter. The creamy croquette was crispy on the outside and piping hot inside. I expected the filling to be flowy, but as seen in the pictures, there was no oozing or melting, rather it resembled deep-fried mashed potato instead. At least the sweetness of corn came through.
For drinks, I chose Honey Lemon because it is sweet, refreshing, and zesty, making it the next best drink resembling Okinawan shikuwasa juice.
Take me back to Okinawa please~

Had dinner at Gu Zao Ren & Taiwan Porridge and really enjoyed the meal. The sweet potato porridge was perfect for the rainy weather—warm, soft, and comforting. It was so good I ended up having two bowls. It really felt like the kind of food that warms both your heart and soul. We also had kang kong stir-fried with belacan, which was super fragrant and packed a nice spicy kick. The black pepper deer meat was delicious—tender and full of flavour. The salted egg prawns were creamy and rich, with just the right balance of savoury and sweet. We also tried the frog legs with ginger and spring onion, which were surprisingly tender and paired well with the porridge. Overall, it was a satisfying and homely meal. Would definitely come back again for dinner or supper!!!
We had a great dinner at Gu Zao Ren Taiwan Porridge! The sweet potato porridge was warm and comforting, while the fried kang kong belacan added a spicy kick. The frog leg with ginger and spring onion was tender, and the black pepper deer meat was bold and savory. The salted egg prawn was rich and creamy. Overall, the service was good, and the portions were generous - we'd definitely recommend it!
Shiok! One word to describe it: Shiok! Truly, indeed is Shiok!
This wet-style Hokkien mee is rich, umami, very creamy, and full with wok hei. It’s made with a mix of yellow noodles and thin bee hoon, and I like how the bee hoon absorbs the umami stock well, no matter how long you take to eat it. Great selection of noodles!
Ingredients include pork belly, sotong, eggs, and three tender, peeled prawns. The very generous amount of garlic enhances the fragrance, adding depth to the dish.
The pork lard is soft and crispy, though I found it overcooked, resulting in a deep oil-heavy taste. A squeeze of lime adds a refreshing zest to balance it out.
I think the chilli deserves a special mention. This was the first time the heat made my eyes tear up instead of just causing ear ringing, which means BIG spicy, not just the usual sweating. Dammnn spicy but also dammnnn shiok! This got to be the spiciest chilli I’ve ever had in a plate of Hokkien mee.
