City Bakery has opened to much hype at Mandarin Gallery; for those whom haven’t heard, the brand is one that was being first established in New York and had expanded their operations to Japan — whilst the brand has since ceased operations in New York, it does operate quite a number of outlets in Japan. The Mandarin Gallery outlet of City Bakery marks the brand’s first outpost in Singapore and also its first step outside of Japan; they had taken the premises formerly tenanted by The Providore there. The concept interestingly splits itself into two (2) different zones; one being the self-service area where patrons can get to pick and choose the various bakes that are being stocked behind the display cases, shelves and chillers at the counter and dine-in, while the other would be the dine-in area dedicated to The City Bakery Restaurant where the menu comprises of dishes segmented into sections such as Bread, Cold Tapas, Hot Tapa, Bread Tapas, Soup, Steak & Burgers, Pasta and Cakes & Pies. One thing patrons should note would be how the establishment disallows dining-in of the bakery items in the dine-in area of The City Bakery Restaurant which is a little inflexible in our opinion.

The Tagliatelle Kale Genovese Cream is a dish that is listed under the Pasta section of the menu at City Bakery; exclusively available only in the section dedicated to The City Bakery Restaurant. The menu describes the Tagliatelle Kale Genovese Cream to come with elements such as Yuzu Kosho-Marinated Chicken (Japanese Yuzu Chilli Paste) and Kale — this was also surprisingly the dish that left us with a stronger impression than their bakes, though it could be us giving the wrong bakes a try especially considering how there wasn’t much a selection to choose from when we made our visit during a weekday dinner service during its initial launch. Giving the pasta a good toss before digging in, the Tagliatelle Kale Genovese Cream can be described as a pasta that features a creamy Genovese pesto base — the tagliatelle does come with a slightly softer texture than al-dente, but still carries a springy bite and being laced with the a hint of herb-y, sweet basil note that comes with a little bit of depth with the use of cream. The highlight of the dish is undoubtedly the Yuzu Kosho-Marinated Chicken; coming in a portion size of just three (3) strips, the chicken does come tender and hints of a citrus-y tang alongside a kick of spiciness that tickles the tastebuds for those whom are tolerable to lesser than moderate levels of spiciness — very umami as well. The added Kale does seem to strike a balance between the meat and pasta elements of the dish; provides a hint of saltish-ness and crispness to the plate of pasta.

Been scrolling around social media and found that there seems to be some talk going around a new pizzeria that had opened its doors at Orchard Central — bad habits. has just moved into the shop unit that is situated right beside the outlet of Molly Tea there, taking over the former premises of the now-defunct outlet of Aburi-En there. For those whom have yet to hear about bad habits. previously, these folks had been in the local F&B scene for quite a while operating a space at Mohammed Sultan Road — these folks are perhaps best known for serving up New York-style pizza there with a dining area that is located right by the alleyway situated outside of the establishment. Their Orchard Central outlet is their very first location situated within a shopping mall — the location features a very clean design that is modern yet with retro touches; simple yet befitting for a New York-style pizza parlour without being particularly dated. Dine-in seating is limited to a communal bench that sits in the middle of the aisle leading towards the store; the food menu at bad habits. comprises of pizzas served by the slice or in an entire pie. Beverages available at bad habits. at its Orchard Central outlet is split into sections dedicated to Coffee and Tea / Ferments.

We were being told by the folks at bad habits. at their Orchard Central outlet that the pizzas offered here largely comprises of flavour variations that are permanently available — there is however one (1) seasonal flavour that is available for a limited time basis. The Mushroom Kale is one of the flavours that is permanently available on the menu at bad habits.’s location at Orchard Central — whilst the menu does not describe the elements included in the pizza, it could be observed from our order that the pizza slice does come with a tomato-based sauce, kale and Shimeiji mushrooms; the Mushroom Kale is also listed as a vegan-friendly option to go for here. Whilst vegan-friendly pizza offerings can get pretty much underwhelming at times, the Mushroom Kale at bad habits. is the one to go for if one craves for a lighter pizza on the palate here. The star here is undeniably the crust; whilst the crust is done pretty thinly, there is no doubt that the crust remains absolutely crisp without having become all soggy from all of the elements that come above it — the edges also carried the same crisp consistency whilst being light and airy with a bit of chew. The tomato-based sauce adds a tang, while the kale does add a crisp bite; the Shimeiji mushrooms giving an earthiness and a slighty bouncy texture for some contrast.

I visited on the last day of the pop‑up and was lucky enough to snag a slot since the Hiyashi ramen was only available through advance reservations. Cold shoyu base sat delicate yet bold once chilled, the glass bowl keeping everything crisp and refreshing. Noodles gave a firm bite, dressed with a scoop of kaeshi sorbet that slowly melted into the broth, layering flavour as I went. It came with three slices of smoked snapper, tender with a gentle chew that added depth without weighing the bowl down, plus a slice of lemon on the side that gave extra acidity when squeezed in. Micro‑greens brought a zesty lift that tied everything together. What struck me most was how light and refreshing it felt, a clear contrast from the usual pork broths, making this bowl the most unique across their recipes. The chill unlocked a complexity in soy that kept the flavours lively and distinct 》$15

($7) Mee Kia I tried it their signature noodle b4 so its quite nice tbh as its quite ex (giving at mall location)

A latte enriched with pistachio flavour, layered with cream, pistachio paste, and crunchy pistachio bits. Served in an edible waffle biscuit cup, it blends mellow coffee with nutty richness. The biscuit adds a toasty sweetness and crunch, turning the drink into both beverage and dessert.

Milk infused with refreshing jasmine, floral and light. Topped with cream and a marshmallow panda, the drink combines playful presentation with a distinct jasmine flavour. Each sip is fragrant and creamy, with the marshmallow adding a soft sugary finish.

Mascarpone cream layered with coffee‑soaked ladyfingers melts into a velvety texture. The cocoa dusting adds a bittersweet edge, while the coffee note is moderate, giving warmth without overpowering. Sweetness and creaminess linger smoothly, making it indulgent yet balanced.

Adorable presentation makes you hesitate before digging in, so we cheekily started from its butt. The mousse is light and creamy, with the black portion carrying the nutty depth of black sesame and the white Chantilly cream offering gentle sweetness. Fresh strawberries add juicy brightness. Matcha powder is dusted across the plate, and the white plate itself forms bamboo leaf shapes, creating the illusion of a panda nibbling on its favourite snack.

Sparkling soda with lime and mint. Refreshing, fizzy, and cooling.

Sweet lychee drink topped with lychee, lemon slice, and rose petal. Floral and fruity, with a refreshing balance.

A+ effort for decoration. They literally present it as a cute panda taking a creamy bath in a bamboo tub filled with milk tea. The drink itself was moderately sweet and pleasant, matching most bubble tea profiles. The panda was a marshmallow, edible and fun.
